So who will be the 1st person to be banned?

what you want is an unpaid staff who just MOD, ie: they work for free and are extra censored when they do post
because they're supposed to set some standard, meantime everybody else is free to bait them and in general make their lives miserable.

what "we" want is less of a double standard.

a mod is free to post as a 'general member' .. but hold them to the same standards as a 'general member' .. ie: vacation, ban, etc for stuff that members would get banned for.

too many times we've seen mods participate like regular members, someone says something about a mod.. then .. ban! mod callout.

you can't be a regular member when it suits you, and a mod when you dont like what someone is saying.

LOL... that's for sure... look at some of the mods in P&N .. nicey nicey is the opposite of what i'd use to describe them.

but then again.. it is P&N .. you dont go to war carrying rubberbands and paperclips.

I think P&N should only be loosely moderated, in case somebody's plotting to build actual bombs or something, other than that hang a sign over the place that says "abandon hope all yee who enter here"
and call it done, lol, they get wild in there🙂

I have no problem with that idea, I'd much rather be a regular member anyway, it's more fun🙂

I regret the time I spent here as a mod, it caused me a lot of sorrow.

agreed. dont venture into P&N if you cant stand the heat.

i love when people post in forum issues "so and so called me bad names in a p&n thread" ... what do you expect in p&n??

I wandered in there a couple times and got scared and ran like a girl🙂

it's unfortunate that there can't be political discussions without name calling, and attacking the poster instead of the issue. well, there could be, but not here.

heck, i'm the gal who had cum photoshopped all over her wedding picture and saw it posted here, now that i no longer have to be all nicey, nicey and ass kissing to the likes of people who would do something like that why would i leave?

Besides, i am entitled to my opinions, i wish perk and toker every bit of luck and know they can do a good job but these forums were neglected and poorly run for years
with an unpaid staff left holding the bag in many cases for things beyond their control.

internet drama. Serious business.

I don't know about that, I'm involved in forums that have a lot of mild mannered housewife types.. and the politics and news forums get almost as crazy as the one here.

I doubt it's limited to "just here" ..

two things you can never truly have civilized discussions about, because people are just too set in their opinions, are Religion and Politics.

Eventually all religious and political discussions devolve into name calling because each side thinks they are correct, and the other is wrong, and when arguments no longer work, you beat your opponent into submission.

I don't agree. Moderation is important for a few reasons at P&N
  • Thread duplicates
  • Enforcing commentary in OP
  • Keeping "Truthers" at bay (has been important lately)
  • Ensuring the more extreme biases in thread titles are corrected
  • ... and more
I'm actually of the opinion than P&N should be much more heavily moderated. I have a strong interest in politics but can barely stand more than one or two P&N threads in a day because of the extreme hate and vitriol over there. There's no reason we can't have political discussions, even heated political discussions, and still stay civil and level headed. Partially it's a problem with moderation of the board, but politics in America has unfortunately been carefully designed to be as passionately divisive as possible.

I didn't say "just here", but did say, "not here". There's a difference. 😉

It's unfortunate the lot of us feel we can't participate in that forum because the name calling and personal attacking is so overbearing.

I don't think this is a function of political discussions, I think it's a function of American political discussions. But it doesn't have to be that way, don't let the media dictate the tone and tempo of the discussion. Here is a political discussion forum in NZ that is extremely lightly moderated on a gaming forum, yet in the vast majority of threads the discussion is civil and virtually never becomes like P&N.

u cant be a regular member 😛

wife of a cop is like a cop..

My husband and I lead largely separate lives online, if anything he's more likely to tell me to STFU than to do anything to anybody as retribution for anything they might say to me here or elsewhere. He's dedicated to this place in a way that I am not.

Also, to be honest, I use the web these days primarily to generate $$$
for myself, the in's and outs of running this place isn't something I've got time to be interested in.

Issues here do tend to get sensationalized by the press.

I always preferred Ars Technica's Politics forum for their Rules/Enforcement. Until they went Subscription only(dunno if it still is, as after they made the switch I just quit going there). Rules were pretty simple: No Personal Flames, no Off Thread Topic Posts(warnings issued, Vacations/Bans as needed), no blatant Troll Threads. In P&N the biggest problem is Thread Hijacking IMO, that should start being Vacation/Ban worthy.

vote me for P&N mod and ill get rid of thread hijacking with strict warnings... and i will make sure to ban myself if necessary.

geekbabe has been hated on since before macbaines infamous post...

I've been "hated on" since I hooked up with my husband. People who were angry with him, dug at me to get under his skin.

I was an AGN3D member and came here primarily as a trader and for the hot deals and really enjoyed the boards back then.
