No, I am not kidding. The business partners chose all restaurants. At the restaurants, they'd ask me what I wanted to eat. I told them. They said no, and ordered what they wanted since everyone at the business meal must eat the same thing according to their policy. I don't speak more than two words in Japanese, and so I couldn't order.Originally posted by: SacrosanctFiend
You're kidding, right? There is tons of food in Japan that does not have seafood as an ingredient.
I did once get what I wanted: a BLT sandwich. The bacon was raw but tasty. After Japan I have no problem eating raw pork or raw beef (I had both). But I still don't like fish (cooked or raw).

Wow, talk about constricting oneself for no practical reason.
Squid is delicious when prepared correctly.

calamari, to me (a non-seafood lover), has a delicate texture that could probably be replicated with other meats, but who would go to a fancy restaurant to order "fried chicken rings?"
Actually, i'm not completely accurate - it has a nice mix between crunchy/salty/and chewy. Imagine chicken with more of a chew to it.. It's not fishy at all, unless its crap quality.
It's not gross, but not like the most amazing thing ever. Still, give it a try - I think it's important to try everything so that you can make up your own mind
I mean, I hated sushi until i actually tried sushi. Then again, "cows tongue" sounded absolutely horrible and then I tried it.. It was absolutely disgusting, but at least I knew that for a fact instead of just being scared.

I love cows tongue!
In fact I used to cook some myself, many years ago![]()

I think you guys have convinced me that my anti sea monster opinion was wrong and I should eat a fried tenticle at my earliest convenience. Afterall, I did have deep fried butter battered alligator once from Papadeuxs in Fort Worth. I was apprehensive at first, but it was better than chicken!

I didn't have the heart to post this in the "greatest meal at a restaurant you ever had" thread, but I had a dish of squid, baby octopus, and fish at an street-side outdoor bar on Curacao, where we were sitting on resin chairs at a concrete table and no one spoke English, but that came pretty close to the best dish I ever had. This is the kind of bar food I could take on a regular basis.
I had no idea what I was ordering except to point at pictures.![]()

If you're ever in Vegas go to the Mandalay Bay and find Border Grill. Order the Seafood Paella Valenciana.
Has calamari, tiger shrimp, clams, scallops, mussels, chicken, and mexican sausage flavored with saffron.
Amazing.

Doesn't a lack of natural curiosity bother you?
