Well finally the GT's are going to be released tomorrow. They look to match 90-95% of GTX performance in most games.

Who plans on holding out till mid month for the new GTS's and HD3870's?

While the performance of the GT's looks great for the price tag perhaps these other new cards will get us the extra few FPS were are looking for in Crysis and all the other new great games comming out.

I'm not real sure which card im going to get. The GT's look great and I REALLY need a card right now... running on an x300 sucks... I would like to wait it out for AMD's answer or the GTS as I'd like all the performance I can get to run these games at 1920x1200, but even if I wait it out for another two weeks are games (Crysis) still going to under perform?

Next year. No card released this year will do DX10 with any quality in the performance area. Look at FlightSim X. Not even SLI Ultras really can do it at 60fps.

I'd advise anyone to wait...it's only 2 weeks. By that time you can check the performance and pick up whichever one performs best.

What's the new GTS? Will it be 50% faster than a GTX so that it corresponds with a new high-end card?

I am waiting for the reviews for both the HD3000 series and the 8800GTs. Can't make a decision until then.

people who already have a 8800/HD2900 series card should wait till next year.

people who are still on dx9 hardware are waiting for these cards (HD38x0/8800GT).

i'm waiting for the HD3870 personally, then compare.

Who plans on holding out till mid month for the new GTS's and HD 3870XT's?

Until a few days ago I was almost certainly going to get one of these, but the atrocious performance of the Crysis demo on the top current cards is now making me have second thoughts. Maybe I should just get a cheaper GT and upgrade again in six months when the next gen cards come out.

Ive got the same thoughts going through my head. Being as I sold my x1900xt and have an x300 right now. I am really considering the GT, but the benchmarks of Crysis performance make me want to cry... I am thinking its going to be best to just grab a GT to tide me over to the next big cards are released.

The other part that makes me think I should just go GT for now is my PSU. I don't know if my current 460 watt (only 25A on the 12v rail) will handle the 3870 or next GTS along side my OCed Q6600...

I'm still running a 6800gt on a S939 board with a 3500+, so any new card will be overkill without a complete overhaul of my PC. But I'm waiting to hoard up enough money for a new rig. And then I'm going to make my current rig a media server or something.

Bud, I'm in the same boat!

Will end up waiting til Apr\May for new house in the end, so may end up with the Penryn\(new GTS\X)

i don't agree....replacing your 6800gt with the 8800gt would greatly improve your fps (or even a cheap secondhand 8800gts-320MB)
as a second really cheap upgrade you could swap out your 3500+ with a 4200+X2 cpu for the games that support 2 cores

with that you would have a nice rig and as a bonus 2 high tech paperweights on your desk ;)

I won't be dumping my 8800 Ultra until nVidia comes out with a single card (i.e. non-SLI) solution that is significantly faster.

Alright, here's where things get really interesting. AMD has yet to come out with its 8800 GT competitor, but we've heard some rumors here and there. First, our understanding is that the RV670 based AMD part will not be any faster than the 2900 XT (and will likely be at least a little bit slower)

from AT's GT review.

While I'm impressed with the 8800gt performance, I'm now using a 1920x1200 display, and I want to get the most performance for my money, even if it means waiting a few more weeks. While I'm sure the rv670 will be faster than a 2900xt, it may or may not match a 8800gt in performance. However, I have a feeling the 8800gt is based on a more powerful gpu with some parts disabled, and after seeing some Crysis demo benches, I'd rather wait a bit and get an even more powerful card than the 8800gt.

This is the last time i will post this ... it appears it IS worth waiting 2 weeks [if you can stand it]:

http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=639
i missed this at the very end until recently:

Cevat Yerli: Very, very well. Stay tuned for more on this. In mid November you will see the new NVidia cards. They are a blast for Crysis and really, really very good deals.
:Q

Yerli is quite aware of the 8800GT. Evidently something better than the GT is coming Mid-November ... from nvidia ... forget waiting for AMD ... IF they somehow manage to beat nvidia, it is a 'plus' :p

perhaps these new cards are what CryTek was showcasing Crysis demos with

It's logical for Nvidia to release something much faster than the GT, since the GT makes the GTS obsolete and very close to the GTX at half-priced. Nvidia still want some of us to buy those $500 videocards don't they?

As much as my fingers are itching to order I decided to wait for multiple reasons.

1. I'm still on AGP 6800GT card (even though I'm running C2D with DDR2), upgrading videocard now will require buying PCIe motherboard
2. Since I'm still running AGP motherboard changing to PCIe might be troublesome for the operating system, so while I can do it, I would prefer to buy upcoming Samsung HD502IJ hard drive, which unfortunately still hasn't made it to retail channels.
3. Retailers are going to price gouge 8800GT, because of (1 and 2) I can wait for better availability/lower prices/factory overclocked versions
4. As magnificent performer as 8800GT is (for the price) I'm running 1920 resolution, and 8800GT can't really pull that resolution in Crysis.
5. According to many reviews stupid one slot solution is noisy and very few if any aftermarket coolers are currently compatible with 8800GT (TR-HR03-PLUS isn't one of them).

Given all of the above, I think it's worth waiting a little more. I've been stuck with trusty 6800GT for so long and endured HL2:EP2 at med-low settings (and still lagging) so I think I can handle 3 more weeks to see if anything drastically better comes to the market. If it's going to be new generation (aka G90) which is highly unlikely, but possible then I'll make a decision based on the price. If it's just going to be new 65nm based 8800GTS with the same dual slot cooler, just faster, then I'd rather go for that instead of GT assuming $350ish pricetag. All in all since any upgrade I make will be a total haul over, it's better to wait couple of weeks.

I'm kind of a newb on video cards so don't laugh too hard at this question. What kind of card should I get to play games like Supreme Commander and Command and Conquer 3 at the highest resolution? Do I need a 8800gt (or similar card) to play those games at highest quality without any glitches?

I'm guessing the GTS will be relatively low power like the GT, probably a bit lower than an X1900XT actually (since the current 90nm GTX uses about the same power as a X1900XTX). No idea about the 3870 though.

Either this new GTS is quite the GTX/Ultra killing monster or he has an odd concept of a "blast," considering how the best current cards are performing. :p I hope it's the former, but I doubt it.
