they say the 2 happiest days of a boat owner's life are the day he gets it & the day he sells it.
ha ha ha ha ha
i love it..so true,
i've owned two sailboats - hobie cat, and a NACRA (ahhh...such a sweet boat)
in retrospect - it would have been cheaper to rent a boat every time i sailed, rather than owned the boat,
if you live directly on a waterway (i mean your back yard is DIRECTLY on the water), it probably makes sense to own your own boat. having a big boat (i mean anything that carries more than 2 people) is a lifestyle, not a item.
if you don't live directly (and i mean directly) on water, your best bet is to get a tiny sailboat you can trailer around and get in and out of the water by yourself (like a sunfish or a lazer sailboat).
i actually sailed my hobie cat (14 foot) much more often than my NACRA (20 racing catamaran), because the hobie was easy to get in and out of the water, and i could sail it alone. The NACRA had to be moored in the water, and i could not sail it alone.
if you don't live directly on the water, and you want something "bigger" rent it from a marina when you feel the urge. while it may seem like a huge sum of money when you see the rental fees- it will actually be much cheaper than owning - trust me (or find out for yourself!).
