So who Flashed their Verizon V3c to the Alltel firmware?

Before I wade through all this, what's the Cliff version?

1. Firmware for Alltel version of Razr (using the standard Motorola UI) was leaked.
2. Firmware can be flashed to the phone using Motorola PST 7.2.3 (an internal Moto software that itself was leaked out. Available at P2P places near you!)
3. Only things lost are Get It Now, Web Browsing, and Pix Messaging. (Never used them anyway)
4. What is gained is: much more intuitive menu system, no menu lag, vastly improved battery life, full skinning option, no more verizon branding everywhere, *full* Bluetooth/OBEX functionality.

The real bonus is the speed of the menus and the improved battery life. It's become apparent that Verizon simply overlayed a UI on top of the Motorola UI, in their quest to cripple the phone and force you to transfer pics and ringtones through them.

So you lose web browsing, pix messaging, and Get It Now, which are BIG parts of Vzn's plans? I can see how gaining OBEX would be a bonus, and maybe better battery life, but at the cost of not being to send pictures off the phone? Now you have to get it home, transfer them off via Bluetooth or something, then send them that way, which is way more of a PITA than just using Pix messaging (I send like 150+ pictures off my Sprint phone a month). Also, you lose the ability to check sports scores, weather, email, instant messaging, anything that the web browsing was used for before.

I suppose it could be worth it, not IMO though.

I guess it is a trade-off. I personally don't use a phone as if its a computer, and especially when I have to pay extra fees for it.

I want (and apparently, alot of others as well gauging by the interest at Hofo regarding this flash) a phone that's fast and clean. Making and recieving phonecalls and txt messages is all I really need. For that, this is perfect. I can see how those who use the phone for all those other things might see this as not worth it.

For what its worth, people are working on getting those functions working again. Apparently, the Alltel flash wipes out the authentication information for those services.

And as a kick, if you don't like the Alltel firmware, the Verizon firmware was leaked as well, and you can easily flash back.

This really sounds like a negative trade-off to me. I've been favorably impressed with my v3c to this point, and I wouldn't consider this flash considering the loss in performance it necessitates.
 
To save the address book use MPT. I didnt flash mine yet cause i was having issues doing it but i think its cause i still have the E815 drivers on my pc instead of the V3C ones. I did however change my startup/shutdown screens and my external lcd picture. Havent put ringtones or anything on yet.


Oh and for web browsing you can hack it to make it work on the Alltell flash. Its pretty much the same and hacking it for free internet access to begin with.
 
too lazy to read the links, how does flashing it improve the battery life? Better power saving through its software?
