My biggest fear is everyone else quitting before I do and I walk in and I'm the only one doing 4 people's jobs. I'm not sure if I wouldn't just do a 360 and keep walking.
Q: Why do they call it the Xbox 360?

A: Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away.

You are correct however only if you do it all the time going above and beyond isn't a bad thing as long as you know how to say no every now and then

Yep, the first time I said "No," you should've seen the look on my manager's face. I had decided enough of his manufactured "emergencies" and I was going to actually have a life outside of work. :D

is the job market that tight that people want to get laid off so they can take a break and it's that easy to find another?

I think the job market is going well enough that a severance package is essentially free money, but I'm sure that's not the case everywhere.

Sucks to hear man, I really hope you will find something suitable, soon.

What are your skills that you say are proprietary? Perhaps we can draw parallels to other marketable skills.

My company bundles hardwares and in house software for bank proof processing. I'm in charge of repairing, installation and support. I have tried software development early in my career but learning programming language just wasnt my thing. I took 2 progaming classes and really struggle with them even thou I got A's in both classes. I have a BS in business. I really don't want to be on unemployment. I have seen friends that got 99 weeks unemployment back in the days and they got really lazy and depress after awhile. I don think 99 weeks of unemployment is available any longer. I can't imagine stay home for even 6 months.

Can you post the resume for this latest job here? Strip out any identifiable information, including company name.

Edit: or you can just pm me.

Things just messed up all over these days still, at least in my trade it looks.

Got out of the Marines in 84, worked where I went through my apprenticeship 8 years, went through a divorce and moved south, worked at another company 8 years and some NAFTA things caused me to move.

The got on with a Major Aerospace company I thought I had a career at for the next 9 years, till corporate headquarters 1000 miles away decided they didn't need us in house anymore.

Since 2010 it's been stupid, had a few under a year jobs I was still getting raising at on a regular basis, then the last one I was at was there 2.5 years and just got a raise two months ago and got laid off Monday.

The turnover rate down here and trying to run things on a shoestring is killing some, I think the wife said one I was at 4 years ago looked shut down,I hadn't even driven past it in awhile.

I kind of get the feeling that whole place might go under soon though, as they even have CNC machines they can't even fix here and there and can't seem to afford tooling lately even, they had to nail down one of the owners running around just make that a point last week.

Figures the tooth I had put off getting fixed starts killing me e the day after I get laid off, must be a stress related thing. I need to get on my wifes dental and get it fixed fast.

I got laid off in January, finally accepted a job offer and sent in the signed papers today. Making almost 20% more than my last job, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel...

Yeah, i just signed up today(Friday) for unemployment.
I took vacation this past week because we were slow in our department & i had vacation time to use up. I called in today to see what the work situation was for next week & they said it was still slow for now so go ahead & sign up. Might not be enough work for the others in my department either.

Usually this is temporary till we get some work going thru other departments before it gets to us. I've been laid-off before even though i've been there the longest. (Sort of) unfortunately they know i can take the financial hit easier than others there because i haven't dug myself into financial hole.

We've had layoffs every year since I was hired, some of them massive, and I keep getting raises... I guess that means I'm economically viable.

Dammit, I'm at the end of my "funemployment" between projects. I have to go back to work in the beginning of July for at least a year.... probably more like 18 months. At least it's not in the middle of nowhere this time.
