Just a friendly reminder, the Mass Effect 3 demo is now available on Origin for PC. You have to have Origin installed to download it I believe, unless it becomes available on torrent later on. It's almost done downloading for me (2.1GB), so I'll post some feedback after I'm done playing it.

OK just played the demo, and my first impressions are a bit mixed.

Gameplay wise, I think it's better than ME2. Action is faster paced, AI is TONS better, more interesting and useful power evolutions etc..

And we know the story will be great, although there was a lot of dialogue and other conversational options missing in the demo.

But man, the graphics SUCK!! D: I'm really hoping it's just the demo, because there were so many low grade playdough looking textures that it wasn't even funny.

Also the animations were a bit clunky as well, but like I said, I'm hoping it's just the demo and that the final build will be higher quality.

Not pre-ordering. I'll probably end up buying it at some point but I haven't heard much to get me excited for the game. It sounds like it's just as linear as Mass Effect 2 and that none of the decisions you made in previous games will have any effect. And when the developer says they want to "cater to a wider audience" and "make the game accessible to newcomers to the series" when it's the third game in a trilogy, that makes me nervous.

I'll wait until it's cheap.

Man, EA is really pimping Origin! :D I pre-ordered my copy on Origin, so looks like I will be getting my free copy of BF3.

Holy cow!!! That is a good deal. Was planning to wait for reviews, since I wonder if they just turned it (ME3 I mean) into another online shooter, but I might have to go for this deal. Not particularly interested in BF3 actually since I dont play multiplayer, but for free I might get it for the single player, even though most say SP is not very good. Also my computer is not really up to snuff for BF3, but could probably play single player at low to med settings.

Not impressed by the demo. They've gone so far over into Streamlined Action Shooter that they might as well have made it an FPS. Graphics are also quite poor. However, I do enjoy the Mass Effect setting and so I will wait it out and get the game when it's cheaper.

I will never buy it on origin.

I'm definitely not buying it at launch. I have a lot of reservations about the game. The changes look even worse than ME2, the story seems to be laughable, and the design choices and characters are horrendous (have you guys seen EDI? or the
prothean
?).

If it ends up on steam for $5 later, I may get it.

Someone on BSN verified that the same textures were used for both the console and PC version of the demo.

Good news though, is that the retail version will almost assuredly have a much higher graphical fidelity than the demo.

I've gone through the demo three times now, with Vanguard, Adept and Soldier.

Here are the pros:

1) AI is vastly improved! I remember getting ready to blast a Cerberus trooper, and the dude rolled right out of the way so I missed him!
2) Combat is faster paced, and more fluid and realistic than ME and ME2 which is good.
3) Love the new power evolutions. Significantly more variety, as well as usefulness.
4) Weapons are far superior than ME2 in both how they perform as well as sound.
5) Love the gore! Blowing someone's head off with a shotgun will never get old!
6) Helmets can be turned off for conversations!

Negatives:

1) The texture quality is utterly abismal with few exceptions. I'm truly hoping the demo isn't representative of the final quality, because if it is, then it would mean ME3 is a step backward compared to previous Mass Effect games.
2) Animations can appear robotic at times, especially when it comes to running.
3) Lip syncing is off in conversations, but I'm sure thats just because it's old code.
4) FOV is WAY too narrow for the PC!

Played the demo, really enjoyed it. I was happy to see Eyefinity support since the first two games didn't have it. March 6th hurry up!

While it would be nice if it was on steam, I just dont understand not buying a game you want just because it is not on Steam. I mean everybody seemed to happily buy games before Steam came into existance. But each to his own I guess.

Anyway, I played the demo, but it was pretty short and couldnt get much of an idea what the complete game will be like. I like the idea of different gameplay modes such as FPS, RPG, etc, but dont really know if that will affect gameplay much. I would prefer RPG mode, but the game seemed even more like a FPS than ME2, but again, maybe the RPG elements and storyline will play a bigger part in the whole game.

I have to say though, I dont think the demo will really convince anyone not already into the franchise to buy the game. Pretty unpolished, and the graphics seemed better in the first game than this demo, and even character movement seemed clumsy.

Well, I enjoyed the demo. I'm sure all the texture and lip sync issues people pointed out will be fixed in the full game. I'm loving the battles with the improved ai.

During the 2nd part of the demo it seemed like the biotic powers took way too long to cool down. I like doing a pull/throw combo and it was almost impossible.

Also I hope there is a way to increase the size of the decision wheel. I don't know why they made it so small.

I'll eventually get ME3, but I don't want anything to do with Origin.

Why would you expect much, if any, visual improvements from ME3 vs ME2 though? They're both developed for the 360, 7 year old hardware now.

Played the demo, it was mostly hit with a couple misses thrown in. First problem I had was the lip synching was off, I'm betting they fix that for the full release. Gosh... at least I hope they do... Second was the abysmal textures, uniforms in particular. Further, the walking animations for Anderson during the tutorial sequence were jarring, the worst I've seen in any of the Mass Effect games easily. And the combat is still very ME2-ish, you snap onto cover... it's a little over emphasized for my tastes I'd rather it be there for when you need it instead of being forced to use it in every single engagement. The very first thing you do in a fight is snap onto cover, you have to since you die so quickly. I may give the demo another run through and see if I can survive otherwise, but ME2 was the same way so I doubt it. Me1 had cover there for when you needed it...

The good, and there was a lot of it - the ME2 styled combat felt fun and looks like it'll be far more varied. Ashley looks smokin' hot, she better be a playable character. Nice to Wrex back too, he also better be playable. Gunplay felt better than ME2, looks like there are weapon attachments too since you pick up a scope for the pistol in the demo (not sure how to equip it though). Graphics are quite awesome in some places, and the shading is superb overall.

I have some gripes on the storyline, I really hope there's more to the opening sequence than what we say, although I doubt it. It's more than a little jarring for the Reapers to just suddenly be on Earth like that, especially after we spent two games thwarting their efforts. Even more odd that Shepard then leaves Earth so quickly, for me that's going to make the rest of the game feel very odd indeed... how are we supposed to take our time doing every little side mission when Earth is getting glassed by the Reapers? Unless this game simply doesn't feature side missions...

i also happily used pay phones before cell phones.

steam is, by far, the best content delivery system. no need to concern myself with whatever bullshit thing EA came up with.

I know I'll want to. I haven't played any on the PC, the first two I only had a 360 at the time. So this time I don't have any saves to continue with. There's sites to download saves I guess, but for some reason it just doesn't feel the same.

Yeah, the pacing leaves me scratching my head. With the rate the Reapers are going to town glassing Earth, even just from the demo footage that I played, there seems to be little time to do much other than to pop by the Citadel, broadcast a mayday, and head back.

Yet we know this isn't true based on the fact the demo mission features us bribing the Urdnots (and presumably all Krogans by extension) to fight against the Reapers. Yet, again, every minute we spend results in thousands of deaths. There really seems to be a huge cognitive dissonance going on, and I hope that there is a plot event that explains this.

There's no way I'm going back to play them both again. I'll just find a save that matches what I did on the 360.
