I am going back to school after being out for 14 years. I am in a culinary school, taking evening classes while working a 40+ hour regular job. I am whipped by the time Friday afternoon rolls around. I get Sunday for R&R.

EE Degree + 40-50 hours at night working at a bank.

Then 10-15 hours on week-ends programming for the DOT.

Communte to school was 1 hr.

Back when speed limit was 55 and gas was rationed by license plate number.

Family needed to be fed.

full time school and full time work is nuts, I don't know how people can manage it. I could probably handle the load but there just isn't enough time in the day. My university is so crowded I have to fight for a schedule that even allows me to work at all.

I'm lucky to mangage around 20 hours of work per week during the semester. Luckily I don't have to do much studying to get by.

I did it - it was the only way I could afford college without amassing huge loans and bills.

I did for 6 years taking about 10-15 hours of class. I honestly don't know how I did it. I used to have to get all my classes on the same 2 days and work the other 5.

All I have to say is that I think Community Colleges are absolutely wonderful. I would serious suggest anyone coming out of high school to go to a CC for 2 years. You get the same classes that you have to take as a freshman at a university but instead of a class of 300 you are in a class of 30 and at half the price. What I also loved was that most of my teachers were professionals doing this for some extra money at night. I took a B-law class and my teacher had some of his lawyer friends come in and talk with up. My accounting teacher was a retired accountant. Also, IMHO CC was harder than college mostly because your teachers got to know you and knew what to expect from you.

I was pretty lucky that my parents paid for most of tuition and provided rooom/board (lived at home for 3 years). I worked 3 out of my 4 years in undergrad (about 20 hours/week) and has a full time schedule in EE...I was a little tight on time in the busy semesters, but nothing I couldn't manage.

Please also list your majors and where you goto college...I honestly can't say working full time and going to a community college majoring in underwater basketweaving is the same as working full time and taking a full load in CS/EE at a top tier university.

I worked full-time and went to school both part and full-time for a few years. It sucked, but I did it. If I had it to do over again, I would find a way, any way to just go to school. I missed out on the entire "college experience" because I worked full-time.

But is the "college experience" really a big deal? All I remember my friends ever doing was going to parties and getting drunk, over and over and over. I didn't feel like I was missing out by not going. I much preferred being by myself and playing videogames, etc. Then again, I'm quite an introvert so I probably don't fully appreciate social interactions.

When you're married and getting ready to have kids and you realize you never really got to do any of that stuff, it seems like a bigger deal. I'd love to be able to look back on my "wild days" now that I'm married.

I went to school and worked 40 hours a week straight from ~1993-2002. I generally didn't take more than 10 hours/semester though, because I could only take classes that were after work.

I worked 50-60 hours a week and went to school about 30 hours a week. Should have never done it since my grades started slipping as time wore on. Too tired from work for class.

worked full-time
took either 18 or 19 credit hours every semester (6 semesters)
graduated summa cum laude
college was a little over 1/2 hour commute away.

After I was done, I was so burnt out I couldn't even think of beginning to search for a job. Fortunately, a few weeks later, a job searched for me.

Still doing it. So far I'm still holding down a 4.0 and I'm 24 CR's away from my bachelors. But what''s worse is try being married with 2 kids.
It sucks! I feel like such a heel because I'm totally missing my kids growing up and my wife hardly knows me because any free time I have is spent doing homework. I guess I put in about 90+ hours a week between work/school/homework.

Hang in there dude! We'll get to the end soon enough.

He's a link to my actual degree plan at the university's website: http://www.stedwards.edu/newc/pace/csm/index.htm

St. Edward's University is an expensive ass private school in Austin, TX. My loans are going to be crazy :(

Yeah I'm from Austin...got a BSEE from UT Austin and working for the university now. St. Edwards is pretty damn expensive...why didn't you goto UT instead? I understand if there wasn't a similar program, but it's a lot cheaper to just goto UT. My mentor during my internship at IBM said he struggled to get his undergrad CS degree from St. Ed's, but at least he's got a good job now:thumbsup:
