I love tormenting my friends by eating meat in front of them this week :) I had a turkey sandwich for lunch, and pasta with meat sauce for dinner today :)

I'm sure your friends will love tormenting you while they live in paradise and you live in hell for all eternity.

"If God didnt want us to eat meat Lisa, why whould he make them so mouth-wateringly delicous? arrrug........."

"But Lisa, you'd be missing out on all the delicous different types of meat like ham, bacon and porkchops."

"Dad, they all come from the same animal."

"Yes, Lisa, some make believe miracle animal that can provide all that delicous meat."

Fish, turkey, and chicken are considered safe meat to eat on GF. Whatever.

I was raised a catholic back in the day when they whipped your ass in school when you were bad (I experienced this a lot - calling a nun a penguin was a good way to experience this.) So the only time I go to the "house of God" is for funerals and weddings. Oh well. I frequently use colourful metaphors (curse like a sailor bitch) too.

Life is good and too short to worry about such silly things.

Carry ON!

This explains why they were only handing out fish, shrimp, and cheese samples at Sam's today.

While I would say I agree generally with the idea of penitential sacrifice... the institution of Lent is a bit to bureaucratic for me. Of course, I'm not Christian.

Since the earliest days of the Catholic Church, on every Friday throughout the year, Catholics are required to do some kind of penance. Most Catholics do not eat meat on Friday as a penance. As far as research says, no Pope introduced it, but it gradually became a practice.
Abstaining helps us refocus on what is important and it cuts out the things that might have seemed important. By abstaining, we have better ability to concentrate on God.

During the Season of Lent, however, the Catholic Church asks Catholics to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Catholics also should carry on the tradition of not eating meat on Fridays through Lent.

There are a lot of people who will tell you it's because the church profited in one way or another from people not eating meat, but that's silly.
