Just want to gear opinions from people that are living with the device. Mostly, are you happy? Is it stable? Any problems?

I have a friend that has an upgrade available and is undecided between a 4S and the One X for budget reasons.

The ONe x is much better than the 4S. Better screen IMO with higher resolution (bigger too), more ram, faster CPU...

The big thing is the One X is more customizable. You're stuck with whatever apple tells you you can have with the 4S. With the One X you can root and flash custom roms and remove HTC Sense if you don't want it, sideload apps, make your homescrean more of a desktop experience. It also supports more video and audio formats since it's not tied to itunes.

OneX all the way. The most amazing looking screen I have seen on a phone. Blows away any competition. Plus, it is big & has great audio.

Amazing display, good looking shell, I'm just not sold on HTC or Sense.

If I find one at a discount, I might just give it a try and compare it side-by-side to the GS3.

Versus a 4S, its a no brainer. I used a international one x for a little while and its a pretty good phone and the screen is pretty nice.

I prefer the iPhone 5, but if you can't afford that, get the one x.

All of that sounds nice to a nerd, but the average person cares about none of that. They just want a phone that roll work on a consistent basis.

What device does your friend currently have?

She currently is using my old 3GS and recently broke the screen. I put a whole new digitizer but i guess the proximity sensor on it doesn't work now...that and she has an upgrade ready. I gave her a loaner phone which was a Motorola Bravo, she liked android other than that particular phone being midrange and not very powerful. She's been going back and forth between either a 4S or the One X.

If she is invested in anything on the Apple side, I would say the 4S. If shes not, than the One X is probably the way to go. I myself have never played with one however.

Yea, she has a few apps on the iOS side.....

To be honest, I'd like to see her get the One X. I think it is a far cooler device and I would rather support HTC and Google over Apple. I just want it to be a good "solid" device.

The One X is a better device in pretty much all yardsticks . . . but it might be better to hold until the One X+. Slightly faster CPU, larger battery. Not sure how pressing the purchase is though.

Well then have her play with both for a week (she can get one and then return it) and see which she likes better. If she is comfortable in either OS, then that is the best way to go.

The One X is quantitatively better than the iPhone 4s, but the iPhone may be qualitatively better for HER. And that is what matters at the end of the day.

Bingo. Don't let phone specs sway you from iOS or Android. Whatever works best for the indiviudal is really the best phone.

But there's absolutely no harm in getting a OneX for a month and trying it out. If I were going to do Android and the GNex was out of the question, I would definitely recommend either the Atrix HD or the OneX. Motorola's android skin is actually a little more lean than HTC's, but I don't really like the shape/feel of the Atrix HD. But this is all subjective, of course.

But hey, you have thirty days on AT&T to change your mind. Tempted to take the iPhone 5 back and try a Lumia 920 when it comes out. Remember that we have a slew of phone coming out in the next month or two. The Lumia's and some other WP8 devices will hit, the OneX+ (but it probably won't be $100) and hopefully some new Nexus'.

I don't know if I could really adovcate buying a 4S over a 5 though. I know some people are really strapped for cash and I guess they do it, but I think you should always buy the newest iOS device, especially when renewing a 2-year contract. Your' going to have that phone through at LEAST 3 iOS versions, and there will inevitably be things in one OS version or two that the 4S won't be able to do because of the slower processor. But some people just want to make phone calls and surf the web, so they don't care. Which is why I did end up buying my Mother in Law a 4 last year after the 4S was released.

AT&T is still 30 days? Nice. I know that Verizon switched to 15 days or something lame.

OP, honestly, you can play with the phone all you want in the store, but unless you actually take it home and mess with it as your daily driver for a while, you won't know what it is actually like.

Don't buy HTC anything. I was a big supporter of HTC but they still haven't released JB on the ATT One X and not to mention they already announced One X+ when the One X came out 6 months ago....They also lied about unlocking bootloaders for anyone that would agree to forfeit their warranty, I had to use an exploit to unlock the bootloader on my One X.

Someone even asking about the one x is going to be interested in this though. Otherwise they would just join the sheep.

But he's not asking for himself. He's asking for his girlfriend. I very much doubt his girlfriend even cares about what her phone can/can't do. If it wasn't for the broken screen, she'd probably be just fine using the 3GS.

You underestimate females...my sister for example, she actually went to android before me and I tried to get her into an iphone because I thought it would be easier. She said "it cant do this or be customized like that or have widgets." She further said that the iphone was both small and dumbed down and she is not a tech person at all. Then I went to android and actually understood what she was trying to explain to me.

So my point is, dont assume that every female can't or won't want to customize their device with android and a larger screen. Best to give them the opportunity to experience it and decide.

One X running CM10 here. Even on stock I'd grab it over the 4S, I sold my 4S (and 5) too keep using this. Jellybean is being released soon.

How is getting an iPhone joining the sheep, but NO other option is? Android is now the majority player worldwide, wouldn't that make it, by definition, where the sheep are??

I just get tired of the hate that gets thrown around by both sides, but in particular the wild-eyed GLEE that the anti-Apple crowd (I am not accusing you of being one) gets from anything that can even remotely be spun as a negative against Apple.

Listen, I don't care either way. I have an iPhone because my previous phone was falling apart and a co-worker sold me his iPhone 4 for $75. I personally can't stand Android, but I don't get a stiffy any time that Google or HTC or Samsung go and do something negative.

From a moderation standpoint, I am exhausted by seeing the non-stop hate being posted. I don't think we should all sit in a circle and sing kumbayah or anything, but just dial it back, or something.

Again, except for the first bit, none of this is directed at you cmdrdredd

I'm not assuming that about all females or anyone in paticular.

I a major proponent of trying a device out and I don't believe you can really decide which device is best for you until you've used it and tried to ingratiate it in to your everyday life. The paper specs and OS features mean different things to different people.

here is a link to the verge review. IMO they are pro apple in their reviews but this review speaks for it self.
so its a plus for android.

To be clear, that is not The Verge review, that is a testimonial as provided by someone that does not work for the The Verge and was posted in their forums.

This is The Verge's review of the One X. And they do view it as a good phone. They particularly remarked on the quality of the display as I recall.

It's a nice article. I read it several times over while agonizing which Android device to get.

Since I use a lot of Android devices at work (patiently awaiting my RAZR M today...), I had a pretty good ideal I wasn't going to like using Android day to day, so I decided on the Galaxy Nexus.

But if I were going to have to pick a phone right now, I'd definitely take a One X over a SGS3.
