Ours is more of a decide on your own policy. With a half inch of ice on the roads and a 300HP RWD car, I'm not headed in anytime soon.

My school never closes, even though i have to walk a mile in this weather (we got a foot of snow overnight).

And the president of the university (who makes the call whether to close or not) was recently in a snow related accident.

Well, it depends on what kind of company you work for.

If you work for the USPS, you better damn well be going to work today!

In Western New York, you come into work no matter what. I can only recall one storm where we didn't, that was in October where branches were blocking the street. This morning was more of the same. I made it in 10 minutes early :D

Yep. We do. The site here sits on top of a huge hill that no one seems to plow. I broke out every prayer in the book to keep my car moving forward while spinning up the hill. Days like these I really miss my 4WD truck.

Even if I had a 4WD I wouldn't have gone in today. The other morons will still crash their stupid asses into me whether I have a 4x4 or not.

Well its Western NY...you are used to getting snow. Down here in DC everything shuts down for a dusting. Now, this storm we got granular ice....very hard to drive on.

Im at work :( It took me 40 min to get here vs 20. I was cutting people off left right and center since everywhere was racing at 20 km/h. It was fun, I saw the traction control light on the whole time during the drive.

I work for a power company, so when the weather gets bad, we usually have more work to do.

If I had 4WD, I'd probably be at the office, but since I don't, I stayed home... and since all other employees did the same thing, the office is closed.

I think they just haven't gotten around to my area yet. I live in a somewhat rural area - about 2.5 miles away from a main road with businesses and such.

My office doesn't close, if we know it's bad weather then we get hotel rooms nearby for mission critical people. Lot of people are out of the office today of course because of the weather, but we still don't close. I didn't think the roads were that bad (Delaware), a bit slushy, but if you take it slow, you'll be fine. I'm more worried about the commute home.

We don't have a policy forcing you to be here, but we don't close down, either.

I feel that this is my job and I should be here, so here I am.

the management used to call "at their discretion" announce that severe weather days are closed except for essential personnel only.

Now since hitler took over our office, we dont close, even if the governor declares a state of emergency, and if you cant get here then you have to burn a vacation day. They wont even let you use a sick day.

I really see very few places where it would be essential to be open on a day like today.
Snow Removal & State Police Crews
Hospitals & doctors offices
Electricity / Telephone Maintenance crews

No-one else has an excuse to really be open.
