No, I wasn't aware that made laws about guns, I thought Congress did that and they were an enforcement agency.

Plus, the BATF operates throughout the USA territory, not just at the borders like the CBP. I don't see the BATF all that much differently than the FBI, and am under the general impression that the CBP mostly operates at just the borders (I'm aware of exceptions where they road block interstates etc in border states looking for illegal immigrants, and these roadblocks can be many miles from the actual border).

Anyway, still doesn't address my impression that we can own/buy these knives, just that they must be from domestic producers (foreign manufacturers can't get them across the border).

At some point this really needs to go to the Supreme Court... if legislators and government entities want to continue to contract gun rights they need to amend the Constitution... until then, they need to get the fuck out of people's business with regards to gun control, etc.

P.S. -- I don't own a single gun nor do I necessarily plan on owning one at any point in my life. But the right to bear arms is a constitutional right in this country and it needs to be defended from infringement until such time it is modified by amendment. All this reinterpretation and pairing down bullshit needs to stop.
