So which non-seafood Chinese take-out dish should I get?

Chinese food (yes, I realize it's about as authentic as the cajun fast food restaurant run by Vietnamese in a mall in New York) is awesome. Thus I will order some tonight. I'm trying to get something different because I always order General Tso's Chicken. I tried Imperial Chicken last time, and now I want something else.

What spicy, non-seafood dish do you like? They have all of the standard dishes as far as I can tell.

The only chinese food I really care for is Shrimp Chow Mei Fun made spicy.

Since you say non-seafood, I also sometimes order Chicken Chow Mei Run made spicy.

Rice noodles FTW.

General Tso's chicken is the worst food imaginable. It's horrible, and I can't believe anyone would pay to eat it.

Worse than a stinky tofu and ludafisk chop suey with a nice durian/anchovy sauce?

Try hot and sour soup and ask for it spicy. My place makes it pretty hot all the time and when you order it extra spicy it's killer. Usually dishes labeled as Schezwan or Hunan are the hottest. So look for something called Schezwan beef or Hunan shredded pork or something similar. Or just call the place and tell them you want a spicy hot dish containing X ingredient and let them recommend something.

No. But it's still pretty bad.

WTF those are the most expensive take-out prices I've ever seen. Where they hell do you live?

just saw that, god damn, a sweet and sour combo here is huge, has an eggroll, and is under $7 with taxes. jeebus.

Honestly, it's probably the insurance. Insurance here is absolutely and utterly insane. I know people who are paying more than $6,000/yr in insurance for their <$200K houses. I'm sure it's really bad for businesses too.

I live in LA with the most expensive everything and pay no where near that much for Chinese take-out. Maybe it's cus you're in Southern Mississippi and there aren't a lot of Chinese food places there?

I can't imagine there being more chinese places. Every small town has like three. Google is horrible at listing them, but there are a ton around here. Things are pretty pricey here too, I guess because I live in the good part of the state. 😛

I put this in a cost of living calculator with a salary of $50K (I wish):
Edit: Actually I live closer to here:
Comparable salary in
Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA
$74,295
If you move from Slidell-St. Tammany Parish, LAto ....
Groceries will cost: 5%more
Housing will cost: 151%more
Utilities will cost: 4%more
Transportation will cost: 11%more
Healthcare will cost: 8%more

Heh, when I got there the owner said "You usually get General Tso's." Huge food portions though. I've never gotten the dinner before, and there has to be like three or four cups of soup here.
