So where the heck are the 939 Semprons?

The latest revision of the roadmap says Q3 2005 at the latest, but i have not seen nor heard a single thing about them yet. The AMD website actually has NO info about the 939 semprons, they are not listed in the sempron lineup. Matter of fact, if you go to the desktop processor quick reference guide on the AMD page and put in sempron, there are no 939 parts listed. Weren't they due out several months ago, but were delayed to extend the life of the 754 platform? where are they now?

Yup. haha.
To answer your question, they're still delayed to extend the llife of the 754 platform. Mobo manufacturers don't want to see all the money they sunk into R&D for 754 go out the window right away so they're extending it's life as a value platform as long as possible. Once 939 Semprons are available to everyone (outside of OEM builds) there will be essentially no reason to purchase 754 boards. -my 2.5 cents.

HP has them in the new desktops. The only reason they exist at all is OEM's demanded it.
They want the same platform for all thier AMD products. It just was not work supporting a different motherboard set just for thier low end products.

This actually works great for me. I can $250 computer with the sempron chip and in upgrade to an X2 now at any time. I usually build my own system but the Low end HP is looking like a nice deal.

How can you even make sure that a pre-built Sempron system has a socket 939 motherboard?

It doesn't make sense to me on paper to have a socket 939 Sempron anyway. Many Semprons are available for socket 754. What's even more odd is they plan to come out with a Sempron 3700+ next year. It's kind of weird considering socket M2 will support quad cores. They also plan to come out with a Sempron for socket M2 which would be a single core 3800+.
That might be ideal for someone wanting to upgrade later to quad core when they're not even available yet. However, if they make us wait a long while just to see Semprons for socket M2, they won't even sell by the time they come out anyway because people will be using cheap socket 939s.

Most prebuild computer still have a place to look up the true specs of the computer.
Granted its a backward way to find it becuase they really don't want you to know.

The HP computers all use the ASUS A8AE-LE motherbaord. Now ASUS don't offically even support this motherboard so will find no information on thier site. If you check further on HP site will find that this motherbaord is 939 pin set only. Beleive me I question the hell out of it beacuse at the time I don't even think AMD had 939 Sempron. It not like AMD even even metion them on thier site. After more checking I found out the OEMs do have 939 sempron so they can have one platform for all the AMD chips.

Look for your self. Look up HP low end system and thier motherbaord and you will see it a 939 pin set and has an Sempron in it.

So don't expect the major OEM to carry systems with 754 mothersboards any more.
It jsut not cost effective for them. They might still a few in stock but my guess after the holidays you will not see them any more.
