I read in Scientific American a couple months ago that NASA contracted with scientists and engineers in India to design the next gen space vehicle. Pakistani programmers will be writing the software and Communist China will be building the vehicle which will be capable of delivering two Big Macs and a large order of fries to the INternational Space Station.

McDonalds has not yet responded as to whether they are willing to risk their reputation by teaming up with NASA.

Crew Exploration Vehicle is supposed to be online by 2014 or so. Shuttles are scheduled to stop operating by 2010.

The Crew Exploration Vehicle isn't quite as fancy as the shuttle, capability-wise but it is safer and more modern, and will last until they can come up with a suitable complete replacement for the space sh!ttle.

EDIT: In addition, it will theoretically be used to send people to the moon and Mars.
