So, when will Mr 1Ghz be out?

I was pleasantly pleased to see that this week I could buy a 815E chipset based motherboard in the UK (we're a backward country here - we don't even shoot each other (ignore what CBS said...)).

Now, when can I expect the Intel 1GHz Pentium III out - in the US or the UK. Has anyone got any realistic times? (I mean 'out' as in being able to purchase, not just for OEM purposes)

Thanks very much, Tom

Tom-
It remains to be seen for sure, But Intel is saying that it will "rapidly increase availability in the 3rd Quarter"
Does that mean they will increase production to 3 a week? Does it mean they will be on PriceWatch by Sept 30?
That's about as much as I can come out with

Yeah, the 1.13Ghz release is just on paper...they can't even supply enough 900's...

What exactly is the third quater - to me it means the third quarter of the calendar year, whcih started yesterday. If the PIII 1Ghz is taking so long, what can we expect with the P4s?

Tom-
As far as the 3rd Quarter- yes, that means sometime in the next 3 months (Not bad considering it was "released" in March :p). As far as the Williamette (Pentium IV)its harder to say- you'll probably hear of them being a "Limited Edition" or "Special Edition" release sometime before Christmas, with more general distribution after the first of the year. BTW, based on what I've read, it has it's own problems, primarily with initial MB support- Intel has already planned on it's successor, with a different layout and pin count, due out next year, making the MB companys leery of supporting what may well be a temporary platform.

Thanks for all the responses. The reason for all this, as you may have guessed, is that I'm building a PC, and want a nice shiny 1GHz processor. I suffer from sad-obsessive-syndrome, meaning I must have a processor with 1GHz speed rather than the probably rather similar 933MHz which I can buy now.

The thing is, I really want to have it built and done ASAP, and at least by the end of July. I'll just keep hoping to see a 1GHz PIII - I know - I could e-mail intel - I'm sure they'll listen!

heh, i went to Fry's yesterday, and sitting there with the other processor stickers was a PIII-1Ghz sticker, with price listed as $1,999. Me thinks though that it wasn't in stock

Uhh if you MUST have 1GHz and you MUST have it by the end of July, why not get an Athlon?

Deeko, you're forgetting my Sad-Obsessive-Syndrome - it prevents me from buying a non Intel processor - that's herecy. Seriously though, I want the onchip cache and I'd really prefer the 815E motherboards.

I guess I'll just wait...
