I love playing FPS on my PC, and OWN (not downloaded) every major shooter in the last 6 - 7 years up to Crysis Warhead. (everything else is reserved for the PS3 - just cant play shooters with a stupid controller which is impossible to aim)

But since Warhead im not sure there was that KILLER FPS that ever came out (BF2 was great but mostly interested people in its online, and CODMW2 and CODBLOP was basically the same as the original CODMW).

I know that more attention is being paid to consoles now than ever, but why cant no body make a damn good shooter for the PC lately ?

I know Crysis 2 is coming soon, but thats too far in between for me, so am i missing something here ? what are some of the best shooters that have come out recently ?

Some of my old favorites:
Doom3 + Resurrection
Quake 4
Farcry (Original)
Crysis + Warhead
CODMW1
Fear

Rage comes out Sept 13th, 2011.

Other AAA fps titles don't have release dates yet.

I just want to know if a DM game will ever be made again.

UT2k4/Q3. UT3 and Q4 were an affront to both franchises.

Your avatar captures my feelings about the subject. What you're asking is, "Will an online multiplayer Arena-style FPS ever be made again?"

I'm guessing that the answer is "no". Consolization has just killed the Arena-style genre. Online multiplayer Arena-style FPS stands for everything consoles are against--online multiplayer freedom--free custom map and mod downloads, independent servers, etc.

The other problem is that many people wrongly believe that Arena-style FPS just no longer has any appeal and that modern gamers wouldn't have any interest in it because the most recent releases (Quake 4, UT3) didn't sell well and didn't do well. That's because those titles were either consolized garbage (UT3) or not really intended for serious online multiplayer (Quake 4). Young males are still young males who would enjoy an online multiplayer cyberbloodsport.

Unfortunately, we probably won't see anything like the original Unreal Tournament for a long, long time. Epic Games seems to have lost all interest in the franchise and any further UT releases would just be more compromised, consolized drek anyway that insults the UT name.

I bought the epic pack on steam for the holidays. I owned ut 3 already, but frankly bought it for ut 2004, which I had on DVD, bought because I had a marginal iso file of it, also owned it but ripped for safety.. Installed it again and dammit I love that game. Also installed ut 3 , not the same...

It's made by splash damage, which basically ensures that it is going to be terrible.

Also it's movement system just seems bad.

I think most would agree that Wolf:ET was brilliant, and Doom 3 or Quake Wars are at least passable. I'm looking forward to Brink the most out of this coming spring's shooters.

A lot of people liked ET for some reason, won't argue that.

D3 and QW were turrible though, just turrible. I wanted to like QW too, couldn't do it, game was so bad.

2010 wasn't a particularly noteworthy year for fps. Here's a reverse chron list of pc fps and you can see the lack of quality.

Metro 2033 was a surprise hit for me. Pripyat was more STALKER, if you like that sort of thing. Bad Co 2 was better than recent CoD franchise releases, and the destructible environments were a nice addition. Singularity was a fun trip too, both similar to and superior than the devs prior effort, Wolfenstein.

In 2011 I'm looking forward to:

RAGE - E3 footage sold me
FEAR3 - 2 was a real disappointment tho, hope they bring back the grit of the original
Bulletstorm
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Crysis 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (fps/rpg?)
Brink - gameplay vids look pretty good

Modern Warfare 3 I expect but don't particularly anticipate unless they do some major overhauling. It's been same old for 4 years now.

Half Life 3 or Episode 3. Guy can dream, right?

If you missed out on:

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay - My favourite FPS handsdown
Prey - you should enjoy this if you liked Doom 3 and Quake 4
Singularity - was an impusle buy during the Steam sale, much better FPS than Bioshock if you ask me

It's not new, but you should really add TF2 to your list

Blah .. Haven't touched TF2 (Used to love it!) since they started all this crafting / hat /
store bullshit. Wish they had some vanilla servers to play on without all that stuff.

I would also add Left 4 Dead 2, for those who like online play.

I'm enjoying Just Cause 2, but I suppose that's a 3rd-person shooter, like the GTA series.
