So whats up with cyrix processer they in any business ?

VIA bought them out. Then, before the buyout was complete, they had Nat Semi "lay off" most of the M3 (Jalapeno) team. Then they bought Centaur from IDT. Then they made the Cyrix III (which was codenamed Caynenne at one point, then jedi, then gobi, then Joshua). Then, WHILE KEEPING THE CYRIX III NAME, they switched the cores to what was a revised winchip 4 design by the Centaur team.

Cyrix as a company is LONG, dead. (and, in some peoples opinions, deservingly....though they'll always have a place in my heart as they inspired me to learn what I know....but they'll also have a place in my computer, as mines OLD 😛 )

There are some hopes that the M3 design is still going on, but from now on, the designs are coming from the centaur design team. Cyrix is dead.

i too still have a cyrix machine. had it for 3years now its still good for surfing the net it was my second pc i thought it was pretty good back then too bad they out of business was hoping for them to come back as a surprise in the cpu mainstream.🙁

My first build was a 6x86 PR200. Ah, memories.

Then I got an MII 250(I think), then a K6 300, then K6-2 350, then a Celery 450A, now Duron (don't know the speed yet, kit is in the mail).

if that m2 was at 250mhz, that could have been either PR 333 or PR 366 😛 Seriously, the PR ratings became ridiculous after about PR 266 (at which point, in integer tasks, they were actually realistic). The PR ratings are as follows:

PR133: 100/50, 110/55
PR150: 120/60, 125/50
PR166: 133/66, 137.5/55, 150/50, 150/60
PR200: 150/75, 165/55, 166/66, 180/60
PR233: 166/83, 187.5/75, 200/66
PR266: 207.5/83, 225/75 (6x86MX), 233/66 (6x86MX)
PR300: 225/75 (M-II), 233/66 (M-II)
PR333: 250/83
PR366: 250/100
PR400: 285/95
PR433: 300/100

... add to that list PR333 262/75 - that's what's currently being sold, and apparently 200/66 is "266" for MII.

Although I also think that the ratings beyond "333" are sort of ridiculous, it must be noted that there have been improvements on the per-clock performance. M2 core rev. 08h ("MII&quot😉 actually is a bit faster than older revisions ("6x86MX&quot😉, and another improvement has taken place in rev. 10h and up. The 262/75 2.9V I recently bought was rev. 14h, and an even newer core (40h or higher) for the "400", "433" speed grades at 2.2V.

I still like to use them in extremely low budget computers, where the extra $40 for not using a Cyrix would mean having to buy less RAM or similar things that would hurt performance a lot more than using an MII 🙂
