You know the guys that are always saying "all MP3s must be encoded with lame razor encoder 256bit mega audiophile super setting otherwise they're crap and the people who made them should have thier PCs taken away for polluting the MP3 gene pool. No MP3 for you!"

Are they so anal about everything, or are they just weird, or what?

I use LAME and think it's the best way to encode. But if I'm really that concerned about the sound quality I will just buy the CD.

So let me get this straight ... they are complaining about the quality of stolen goods?
OR
They're complaining about how I choose to listen to music on my system.

OT, anybody see Malcom In The Middle last night ... tries to steal the foot massager and gets snorkeling gear ... LMAO

Dude, honestly, why does every mp3 downloaded from Kazaa et al have to suck? Why can't these rippers at least spend the time to do it right, or not do it at all and let someone else do it? I encode all my mp3s as per guidelines established at r3mix.net. I don't debate whether this setting is better than that, or if this lame version sounds better than another. I just follow one website's recommendation and it sounds 10x better than anything I've downloaded off Kazaa. I usually do my own encoding now...don't download mp3s anymore...

No, it's just that simpletons like you have never heard anything better than a GPX shelf system so you don't care what it sounds like.

hey if you had some nice speakers you would DESPISE listening to MP3's instead of the real CD... and more to the point with nice home theater speakers you will probably want 24-bit DVD Audio because CD's don't sound that good on high end systems!

Probably, but unless you want to buy me a couple $1000 worth of speakers, I'm not going to be able to tell the difference, like 99% of the rest of the people in the world. Lots of people's hobbies and priorities are not speakers.

And lots of peoples' priorities are not computers, automobiles, movies, literature, art, or sports. But people spend money on things that bring them pleasure. So how about leaving the audio commentary to people who actually know what they're talking about? If you don't care, fine. But don't complain when those who do are talking over your head.

Are you serious? You mean you'd rather have a nice big house instead of the most amazing super kick a$$ stereo system in the apartment building you've been living in for the last 10 years? ;)

Obviously you can have both. I just get a kick out of some of my coworkers who spend a fortune on what I personally consider rather superficial things in the grand sheme of things while having no savings or long term assets. To each his own and all that. We've got an uber amazing sound system in one of the presentation rooms here at the office and while it's true some of the MP3s on our server don't sound as good as others I personally just don't care if there's that big a difference. It's the content of the songs that matters most to me. Whether or not the quality is as close to studio level as possible is a distant secondary concern.

Yes, you're right, other people's priorities are not cars and computers. However, I'd love for you to point out the last time you heard someone say "What, you bought a cavalier? What's wrong with you? You know nothing about cars! You're not qualified to be buying ANYTHING. From now on either learn what you're donig and buy a ferrari, or leave the driving to those who know what they're talking about!"

If you have any reading comprehension skills, I'm sure you realize that I never said anything bad about people spending money on nice audio equipment. I only criticized people for complaining about the way that other people encode their MP3s.

This from a guy with car pics in his sig. But you're right, to each his own. To me, a car is means of getting from point A to point B. Nothing more. I'll drive my 92 Explorer until the engine disintigrates, and then I'll buy something equally dull. Only my house outstrips the tens of thousands I've spent on music and gear to play it on.

Kind of like those people who drive a tricked out (or riced out) vehicle, yet live in the ghetto? ;)

If you want the best quality you should probably be buying your music. On the other hand if you're going to share you should try to do a decent job.

I encode with LAME at 192k True Stereo, I can't tell the difference above that with my modest heaphones. It's pretty much the standard anyway.

And for movies I encode with LAME 128 ABR Joint stereo, and it actually sounds pretty dang good for what it is. Leaps and bounds ahead of 128 a few years back.

The only reason the cars are in there is because I JUST got the truck a couple weeks ago and there was a thread about posting your car pics. As you can tell my old beater Sentra and used truck aren't exactly rice rockets.
