So what's the whole 'Windows-Compatable" proccessors mean?

As if anyone would even try to sell a CPU into the mass-market w/o being Win compatible... :roll:

I believe what it means is that its the only Windows x64 compatible processor. Windows x64 is an OS in beta and is free to download on the Microsoft website. Windows x64 is "supposedly" the only OS that can utilize the 64 bit part of the 64 bit processor.

Id disagree.

Perhaps AMD anticipated that people would think that because A64's can do 64-bit that they werent backward compatible with 32-bit. Just covering a possibility.
 
no its said "only windows 64bit compatible" somthing like that.

because its the only processor that can support windows 64 right now.
 
What they are saying is it's a 64 Bit CPU that is backward compatible with 32 Bit Windows. Ignor it. Any CPU that New Egg sells will work with normal 32-Bit XP. It is marketing to a degree but if they did not say that many would feel being a 64 Bit CPU it would not run Windows.

And sandorski I have Windows XP Pro on my Power Mac G4. It runs in a window under OSx! 😀 It's kind of slow but did it just to freek out a few friends that said it would not work. Virtual PC will run any windows and even Linux on the Mac, so yes, you can run XP on a Mac! 😀 I prefer my P4 though for Windows of course!

I use OS X every day. After years of using Windows (still do as I have 3 PC's in the house), I much rather OS X (which I run on my laptop). I agree that it sucks that it doesn't run on x86 hardware which is much cheaper, but Apple would loose heaps of money if they marketed such a version, because they are mainly a hardware company. It is rumoured though that Apple has a x86 OS X hiding somewhere internally incase the PowerPC flops.

They released a Beta(IIRC) version of OS X for x86, but support for hardware was very limited. Again IIRC only a few chipsets(all Intel I believe) were supported and a few other components(vidcards, sound, etc). MS may have made a deal with them or perhaps they just decided it wasn't worth their time/money to develo it further.
