I don't understand why people think wagons are uncool. The Merc E63 Wagon is way cooler than any crossover or SUV.

I picked a crossover because I wanted more room than a sedan but had no need for the towing and such. I have an AWD Nissan Rogue and it's a solid car. It's about as effecient as my old '90 Accord I got rid of yet I have a lot more room and utility for my own needs. I don't need to haul anything other than people and the occaisonal load of gear or boxes of shit. It handles the winters here in northern Indiana better than most sedans and has a decent amount more ground clearance as well.
It filled the niche for people that wanted more room, but didn't want to sacrifice efficiency if they didn't need the power of a true SUV. As said before, they're basically a slicker wagon.

I haven't seen a crossover offroading yet.
0-60 under 4
not imported, you have to request it and they'll order it for you. May as well go pick it up in Germany.
nobody cares dude
the majority of people who own these vehicles have no desire to go "off-roading" the way you are trying to imply. Nobody is buying a nissan rogue to climb rocks.
Hey now, don't sell it short. I conquered a particularly tricky patch of gravel the other day... WHILE TURNING

I'm not saying that they are. There are other people in here saying that crossovers are good for offroading. I don't know anyone who would actually use one to do that.
Exactly. I think the point is to combine the best of having a sedan with the main reason the SUV craze exploded: interior space. I doubt the majority of people rolling around in SUVs are offroading either.

And like I've demonstrated some are capable of your version of offroading. Heck, Touareg's compete in the Baja 1000 annually. But for most people offroading is getting to a trailhead, going down a fireroad or even getting thru the woods/desert/mud that a conventional vehicle couldn't make thru.
Crossovers are just SUVs without calling them such. The name came about at the height of the green movement when Sport Ute became a dirty word.
I always laugh that Ford considers the Edge/MKX and Flex crossovers.
I haven't seen you demonstrate any that are capable of offroading yet.
Eh, I think the term SUV is still used to reference the original truck based, body on frame concept while crossover has now been adopted to identify car based, unibody construction.
It will be interesting to see what Ford calls the new Explorer. It's built off the Taurus-X/Flex platform and no longer truck based.
Already have but just doesn't meet your definition of offroading, plenty of offroading clubs would though. I'm guessing this isn't considered offroading either.

The new Explorer is considered a Crossover.
Is it really? Huh, I thought the crossover class was a bit more restrictive than that.
