The guy who tried to bomb Times Square wasn't poor, wasn't uneducated, wasn't oppressed.

So what's the excuse now?

Most of the recent bombers have been highly educated men.

The doctors who tried to attack the Glasgow airport and now this guy with his MBA.

The obvious problem is America and its oppression of Muslims... or was it our support of Israel? or our freedom of speech that allowed the cartoon network to insult Mohammed... etc etc

His excuse is that he was Muslim and America has to open its doors to all Muslims. If you don't agree with that you must be some sort of bigot.

Obama should stop killing brown people and the world will love us.

This may, actually, help.

Terrorism is a bourgeois endeavor to begin with; the guy who spends 12 hours a day working doesn't have time when he comes home to think about murdering anything but a beer.

Unfortunately when you are given no allowance of beer, no way for a good number of men to ever get married (see polygamy) and promise eternal-awesomeness if you just kill yourself while killing some infidels, the proposition becomes much more alluring.

I smell an ATOT thread brewing.
"I tried terrorism and they still won't let me in! What am I doing wrong??"

Well Mayer Bloomberg said the suspect was just a mentally deranged person who doesn't like Obamacare.

There is your excuse.

Maybe if we end our occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan muslims will stop being so homicidal.

/israel/palestine logic.

terrorism is always inspired by plight. Maybe if we give the muslims more land they'll like us more.

well, to be honest, some Muslims have been given bad information; this information has corrupted their operating system; as such they need to be reformatted.

possibly into the format of a bit of goo on the ground.

the problem with this is that it spreads the information virally!

have you a solution to this problem?

Liberal fools will always come up with excuses for our enemies. They simply cannot accept the truth that sometimes the enemy must be slaughtered without mercy. This is why liberals fail. Everyone knows this.

Did you read?

The American Dream went down the toilet just like at least 80 million other Americans in the Great Recession. He was about to be homeless on the street with nothing after living in upscale suburbs of Connecticut.

He snapped like a lot of others except he tried to go for the virgins but failed?

He really did learn to be American at EPIC FAIL.

The low education level and lack of opportunities are generally good sources for breeding of terrorists, but by no means are terrorists always from that background. There are always those who've had opportunities and money who choose to go down the path of murder for one reason or another. The fact that Islam easily lends itself to be used to manipulate such people doesn't help.

I want more bombers like the Times Square one. Incompetent morons who don't have a clue what they are doing are my kind of "terrorist". Furthermore, I find it incredibly comforting to hear reports that he received training from an actual terrorist organization in one of the hotbed zones. If this is that pathetic tomfoolery they have been reduced to, then I'd say the war on terror is pretty much won! :D

More realistically I suspect the links to terrorist organizations were primarily ideological, and the "training" is vastly overstated in public news releases. This guy seems like a pathetic stooge more than someone who was tasked with an actual "operation".

So Braz...when do you start up again with your

"It is my wish that Hindu men and women are proclaimed amongst the mightiest and noblest warriors in the annals of human history and future. It is my wish that our great nation rise above its pettiness, its pseudo secularism, its hyprocrasy of socialism and communism, its appeasement of minorities and finds its original roots in the sole sustainer of her destiny, hinduism. It is my wish that our nation would conquer the world with the twin swords of righteous might and justice and free humanity from the bondage of evil men."

Hinduism shall be the sole victor of the next great World War.

I do a lot of reading on the motives of homegrown would-be terrorists such as Mr. Shahzad and there's usually one common theme. They're all misfits - fairly well-educated and well-heeled individuals who through whatever quirk of personality become loners and (at least in their own minds) failures.

In his isolation, the loner gets exposed to radical Islam (online or at a local mosque) and takes on this romanticized higher calling as a soldier, a warrior, in order to remake themselves in their own minds. Fortunately for the rest of us, their lifelong habits of being a failure usually reasserts itself and they fuck up at something as simple as blowing themselves up.

More on the above: PBS, Frontline, Canada: The Cell Next Door

It will be interesting to find this out as it develops. But essentially every reason stated above is total BS which does little more than reflect the political bias of it's proponent. He was working hard at an entry level financial sector job until he quit last June. He put down $50k cash to buy a nice starter home in a nice town in a very expensive region. He was at the start of the American dream, objectively speaking. Remember too he was married with two young children.

BTW weren't most of the 9/11 hijackers also higher educated, upper class and "westernized" as well?

People on MSNBC were saying he was upset that he could no longer afford his mortgage. They pinned it on the housing crisis rather than islamic extremism.
