I updated my macbook to whatever the latest version was about 15 seconds after I learned how to left click... never experienced any wifi disconnect problems.

It works like this;
If the first digit is higher than what you have, then you might want/need to buy a new computer.

If the second digit is higher than what you have, then you might want/need to buy a new OS.

If the third digit is higher than what you have, then you need to run Software Update.

So if you have 10.6 and you want 10.7.1, then you will need to drop $30 at the App Store to buy Lion. If you have 10.5... Then you can either pay $30 for Snow Leopard and then $30 for Lion, or $70 on a Lion thumb drive from Apple.

If you have 10.4 then you probably cannot run 10.7 anyway.

Same, the 10.7.1 update was out already when I bought my Air. Updated within 15minutes of the initial set up. WiFi has been solidly connected to my N network ever since.

apologies for going a bit off topic but this is kinda killing me:
-i coulda sworn i was able to write to my ntfs formatted portable hd before but it's been awhile since i remember doing that. now, i grabbed a new drive, also formatted as ntfs, and I can't write to it. (white macbook running latest snow leopard just before lion)

did anyone else experience this lately and, if fixed, how did you go about doing so?

OS X only natively supports reading from an NTFS drive, not writing to it. You can get MacFUSE/NTFS-3G (free) to enable write support, but it will be at half speed (at least it was last I used it). Conversely you can drop $40 on paragon NTFS to enable full speed NTFS read/write support. Go with the free option for now.
