The real problem with SW:G is that Sony Online Entertainment has a bad habit of downsizing all their talent to save money and then foisting a half-finished product on legions of paying customers to beta-test it for $12.95 a month. They allow glaring bugs that greatly affect gameplay to go unfixed for weeks or months, if not forever. They have spam-screens bugging you to buy the latest expansion every time you log in, and to increase profits they're churning out these expansions every few months. As you might guess, giving a group of interns and maybe 2-3 underpaid guys who actually have to shave a few months to come up with an expansion has disasterous results every time. EverQuest started out as an excellent mmorpg, but eventually the Sony mentality of ruthlessness caught up to it. It was originally made by a small company called Verant/989 studios, but was bought in the beta by Sony; however Sony left well enough alone for a few years, which is why the game was good and succeeded. As you can imagine, the type of player to take this abuse for their money (their parents' money, in most cases, I'm guessing) is none too mature or intelligent. Further, an online game draws much of its appeal from its playerbase, and Sony games have been attracting far too many young and/or brash people the past two years or so. Taking battle.net abuse (ie. j00r m0m suxx0rz 4 25 centz olololololo) for free is one thing, and not one I'm fond of. Paying a monthly fee for it is insane. FYI if it's not clear already; both EverQuest and Star Wars: Galaxies are Sony Online Entertainment games.
