So what will happen to those with illeagal versions of XP when SP 1 comes out?

a) crash their computer not allowing it to boot
b) not allow them to install sp 1
c) not a llow them to install subsequent fixes from MS
d) nothing?

maybe I'll make a poll.

I've got an office w/ about 10 workstations that i'm pretty sure are illegal (old sysadmin did it) I know for sure 1 is.

Am I the only one not worried about this at all? I have full confidence the SP will be cracked and warezed in less then 12 hours, and available for download just like XP was... no bigge.

Well I'm interested in the issue, but I don't even use the one legal copy of xp I have running on more than one computer and not even my main computer. There isn't an illegal anything on my system, not even an MP3, but I'm not a purist of a fanatic about it. I tried downloading and installing an illegal xp for fun. I wanted to know how. I got it up and running, but it wouldn't do automatic updates or downloads so I still don't know how to do it, but I got tired of it and wiped it. Will probably play with Linux next to see if I can get a nice crash proof and long term stable platform to post and goof off from. I also got a legal 2000 server I don't use so Microsoft has plenty of my money. Also, for home use, it's real selfish, in my unimportant opinion to expect people to spend 400 to 600 for two or three copies of xp pro if you got 2 or 3 machines on a home network. As long as it's home and not commercial use one copy per house ought to be enough for them.

hoihtah I tried my legal key in the fck copy and the fck key in my legal one. Neither worked in the other for me.

I think you are quite wrong. The last interview with microsoft said they are disabling all keys that they know are pirated. This includes the corporate keys. The big corporate uproar was that they would kill all corporate keys to which they said they are only killing the pirated corporate keys. I fully expect that every XP Key you can currently find on the net will be dead with SP1.

What could they hope to achieve by disabling the popular corporate keys? A new, random, valid corporate key can be had in 5 minutes or less.

Supposed to be a new build of IE 6.0, plus a whole bunch of bug fixes. FWIW..keep your eyes open. For fun I followed a link I found on OT over the week-end. I found a key-generator for XP (all versions). I tried it on my version, it worked. Don't ask me...

sp1 for win2k killed my system. sp2 is fine though. so this might not be worth getting either.

Ordered Sunday and it should be here by Thursday, damn 4 day turn around time!

There are corporate key generators as far as I know...? So if it's generated, how would they know? It's a moot point either way, as "hacked" versions of SP1 will be available for such users.

I thought the disabling features will only affect slipstream installations of XP and not upgrades. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
