So, what should I tell my employer?

okay. So i'm a 16 year old student, and I have been working at a local computer store for a little while. What happened was I saw that they were looking for someone to work part time, and I applied. They were a little nervous about hiring a high school kid with no work experience in the field and no certification, so I offered to do 30 hours work on training wage, so they could see if I would be a decent asset to their business or not. Now, I've gotten to know the owner pretty well, (he's 21) and he told me that i'm pretty much going to get the job. I just have to have an interview and fill out some paperwork. Now, it will be a bit different than regular interviews since everyones pretty much gotten to know me, but I do know that one of the questions is going to be what my wage expectations are going to be.

Now, I don't really have much of a problem with minimum wage, but I don't want to lowball myself where I could be making 10-15 an hour. What should I say when this question gets asked?

Training wage: $6.00

I'm pretty much just a tech. I put together computers when they come in, remove spyware, upgrade hardware. All that general stuff.

You get min wage doing anything else. You doing computer stuff which you should get a bit more

I would take what is offered. Then if you are really good 6months form now ask for more if you are maiking Min. wage.

Exp. is worth more then the money right now. You are lucky they even hired you at your age and lack of exp.

Like I said, I offered to do a trial employment to show that I would be a good person to hire. I think that this is the only reason i'm getting the job.

I wouldn't go more than a dollar over minimum. High school kids that can troubleshoot or build a machine are dime a dozen where I am at least. If I was the owner and you asked for $10 an hour, I'd probably offer something much closer to minimum wage. Tell them $8 to start. If you're a good worker I'm sure they would up your pay after you prove yourself more.

Ask them <the owner> to put it in writing <NOT verbal> that you will get a pay raise <6 months from now> if you pass all the requirements for the job. Then bust your tail and show them what you are capable of, don't forget positive attitude is a big plus <never do the "it is not my job/responsibility>.

edit. start a bit higher. $12 and bargain down to $10

Take whatever a kid working at a movie theater makes and add about $2/hr to it.
