So, what kind of cool stuff can I do with a modded xbox?

Pirate games... ? heh

I dont think there is much else that it does...

Maybe you can play multi-region DVD's...

lose the ability to play xbox live

- gain the ability to use it a progressive scan dvd player. --- oh, and use xbox media center

play xbox live with the chip turned off

stream music, movies onto your tv from your computer using your xbox

play old emulators and etc

I just went to xbox-scene's website, dang that top navigation is hard to read... they really need to go the higher contrast route... or at least make the words white when you mouseover 'em 😉

wait i thought that XBL could still be used if the chip can be turned off.

I'm fairly certain that even doing that, some games still wont work

You must have a chip that can be turned off and the original game.

you can stream any format of music/movies/pictures from your pc to your xbox.

run games off of the hard drive.
enable progressive scan dvd playing.

play homebrew games.
browse the internet on your xbox.
get news feeds, check the local weather on your xbox.
get imdb information on a movie playing on your xbox.

What he said. My friend's $150 modded Xbox is pretty sweet. You can stream music and video from you PC, install emulators to play ROMS, load games from the HD, etc. Not a bad deal, if you ask me.

Do people sell xboxes already modded?

you can do alot. you can run homebrew software, run PC media on your xbox, use progressive scan on dvd playback, and you can run emulators! you can even use it as a mini-ftp if you need to store some stuff on it.

and YES you can even go on XBOX LIVE WITH A FRIGGIN CHIP IN YOUR XBOX!!!!

I don't believe that is possible if you change your hdd. I remember reading somewhere that they detect any changes to the hdd (going from 8 gig to a 160 gig hdd for example)

Not if you install a larger hard drive. They're getting pretty agressive with the bannings now (I am included in that list). It doesn't matter if the chip is off or not, they scan the HD and see if it's the factory one. If not, you're eventually going to be banned.

Not a big deal to me, as I didn't really play online much anyways.
