So what justifies the BMW M3's extra $20k?

I know its performance is well ahead of the 3-series, but I'm having a hard time justifying the price tag. Is it just a "drive one and you'll understand" thing?

1.) 333 HP
2.) SMG option
3.) Sticks to the road like a cat on a sag carpet.

It's fast, it's sweet, and it will make girls cream themselves.
Drive one and you will get laid 300% more.

...note that if you're currently at 0%, you're still screwed. ;)

In short, yea, drive one and you will understand. When I was deciding between the 3.0 z3 and the M roadster, the dealer, just smiled to my question...will I really notice the 315 HP of the M engine versus the 3 liter 225. BTW, the M3 engine has 333 HP and a 6 speed versus the 315 and a 5 speed of the M roadster/coupe. Needless to say, I drove off the lot with a brand new M roadster, hardtop for the cold Chicago winters.. some AC Schnitzer pedals and shift knob and whenever I pass a z3, I feel sorry for the person...they have no idea what they are missing. Funny thing is, had I gotten a z3, I would not have needed a loan...but for the M, I did, and I happily make my payment every month.

So from one M owner to a future prospect, I have never regretted my choice.

Also, if you haven't driven a BMW manual before, they are notchy and take some getting use to, but once you get the timing down, there is nothing like it.

To me the M roadster looks like a metal version of the old converse hi tops. To each their own I guess.

i think if you have to ask why the 20k is justified, you shouldnt be driving one

you wont fully appreciate it unless you know what you're getting into (and know how to drive! i mean, really drive :p)

Except for the Roadsters, BMW makes an ugly car, IMO. I'm sure if drove one I'd like the performance. I just can't get past their complete lack of style.

Oh, and if your car gets you more poon, then you're ugly. :p

50% more power, tighter suspension... more exclusivity, cool red, white, and blue thread used for stitches...

Edmunds seems to be down for the moment. Does the M3 come standard with any extra bells and whistles over a base 3 series? How much would, say a 328i, or a 330i run once you option it out comparably to the M3?

True

Well, if you don't know what the hell the car is, then how can you say that you can't justify the price?
