I was thinking of this. Do you have to know calculus for this? What after school certifications do you need?
I specialize in automation and controls so calculus isn't needed, although I took 4 semesters in school. As for after school certifications, I really need none as long as I can learn the stuff needed on my own, but with that said, I'll be taking a robot training and programming course early 2005.
Oh, and it's more rewarding than anything I could have dreamed of while going to school. Great career, so far. Pay's pretty good too!
Oh, and if any of you young getting ready to graduate (or have just graduated) EE's out there are looking for a field to get into, take a look at automation and controls, especially if you enjoy a little programming to go with it. I can only imagine that the field is going to continue to expand and grow as many companies look to take labor out of the equation in producing products (or at least to up quality).
