DUDE, if u havent decided, dont walk the engineering path

there are like 9 girls in my class of 100...something, After associating with a couple of them (dating a suicidal girl), I came to the conclusion that engineering girls are fundamentally wrong in multiple ways...

and since my whole damn university is mostly math/science/engineering, i'm doomed :(

To the poster who had questions about the major/minor thing. Generally, In the states, if you take 8-12 classes in a subject, it's considered your major. Some majors have more requirements and prerequisites (foundational classes) than others -- for instance, these engineering folks had to take a lot of math classes that probably didn't count towards those 8-12 classes that I talked about earlier. Some majors/schools also require you to do a major project, or complete comprehensive examinations, or have a certain GPA in your subject.

A double major is where you complete all of the requirements for two majors. That way, you're "qualified" in two areas. Some folks even like to tripple-major, but I don't think I've ever heard of a quadruple major. At least yet.

As far as minors go, some schools offer them, some don't. It means that you've taken more classes in a subject (let's say 5-6) than the average student, and that you you know more about it than most people, but you haven't completed the requirements for a full major. Some people think that they're really nice to have; others think that they don't mean much.

Hope that helped. If I lied, I'm sure that someone else will correct me.

How many classes do you have on a year? or how long does it take to get your minor/major?

We have a system where you can get a bach.**** degree in 3 years and two years extra study will give you a can.**** degree. You can split your study so you take two different lines, or you can stay on one line.

I'm currently on my fifth year of biology, and will be a can.scient in biology when I'm finished.

EE, and is calc used?

it depends. I spent my coop doing a real Firmware position. I did not do calculas. However, my friend spent his coop doing consulting work for an elelctric company. He did do calculas. It all depends on what job you get.

Biostud -

My undergrad had 8 classes a year -- we were on a weird semester system -- so each class was fairly long and intensive. In that sense, it was a bit more than a full-year's work to get a major.

Now, in grad school at Georgia Tech (I know, an odd place for an English major to end up) I've got about 10-12 a year. I haven't looked at their undergrad course offerings that much, but I believe that it would be about the same time span -- a little more than a year -- just to take the classes for a major (not counting the engineering/math prereq's that is).

I'm not familiar with your system; would a can.*** degree be the equivilent of our master's? (a year or two of post-graduate study?)

Which college do you attend?
I'm from Ontario, too.

couple of my friends went to something similar... networking or some garbage, they say its useless too. Its a coop program, but its impossible to find a placement unless u have connections (plus those 2 r lazy)

now one guy devoted his life to WoW and help out the family pizza business
the other guy working graveyard shift in security place, and play lineage all day

they went to Mohawk collage in Hamilton, Ontario

Or system is like this:
9-10 years school
3 years highschool

University or similar:
You choose a line like biology, english, history economics etc. and stay on that line for 5 years (you can also choose to take two lines)
3 years for a bachelor degree (Which is pretty useless, so 99% go for candidate) ()
+2 years for a candidate degree
+2.5-3 years for a ph.D.

You both have to make a final report on bachelor and candidate, but on the candidate you have to plan your project to a much higher degree than on bachelor. My project is supposed to take 1 year but will most likely end up taking 1.5 or maybe even 2.

Double major in math and physics, double minor in computer science and psychology.
