for some reason this bright green rectangle about 2mm x 4mm just appeared on my screen and it won't go away. is there anything i can do to get rid of it besides re-booting?

Take the post it note off your monitor? 😉

Seriously though, try turning the PC off and back on - I have had problems like you describe and that fixed it.

Is it an LCD or CRT?

If it is an LCD, then possibly one of your block is bad, you're pretty much SOL.
If it is a CRT, then throw holy water on it 😛, or throw it out and get a new monitor.

Go into your video settings (Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Display) and to the Settings tab. Change your color resolution to something else, then change it back. If that doesn't work, change the size resoultion then change it back. Should reset your video ram.

OR you can just rightclick any blank area on the desktop and his Refresh if it's just a problem with relics in the active desktop part of memory.

a sexorcism...😎

EDIT: I tutored waaay to many kids in math tonight..

<--brain fried.

How old were the kids, and do their parents know about your "problem"?

Do you have speakers next to the monitor that aren't magnetically shielded? This could cause the monitor to turn funny colors.

It wouldn't be a perfect rectangle though. Really sounds like her video card created a relic and just need refreshed.

If this happens only intermittendly (sp?) you might check the physical connection and see if it's dirty or something.

yeh, i know you guys are a bunch of jokers, i can be too, but don't tell me to do something that is gonna eff up my computer, k?

eh, i know re-booting would take care of it, but i was looking for some simple keystroke action to make it disappear.

eakers needs to get that checked before it gets any worse 😱
