You can still find real plextor if you want it. My Samsung 182 is OK but they still haven't got their PATA interface into the 21st Century. Still running PIO or DMA2 - not even ATA-66 yet... Can slow things down in a complex system.

I did some research lately and bought an LG H22N from microinformatique.ca I know they're in Quebec but I had a hard time finding them elsewhere. I mean, some links will direct me to some site and when I try to order it says "out of stock".

Anyway, here's a link...
http://www.shopbot.ca/default....g+h22n&position=search

This is a Canadian site. In any case, I looked at sites like CDfreaks and CDRinfo.com for reviews and looked at some forums there to see what people think. The LG H22N is seen as a good drive but lately people say when prices went down, so did quality (for other drives I mean). If you look at the reviews on the latest drives, I find it pretty discouraging. And by the way, people say the H22L is not as good as the H22N.

I hope someone finds this useful.

ASUS has started making "quiet" drives - easily noticeable for being MUCH quieter!
