Wow call me crazy but that would drive me insane having people contacting you every where you go.
It's not like they sit in a restaurant, pull out the blackberry, and start analyzing data for a half hour or anything. I'd say it's more for allowing simple things to be done quickly.

Example: Employee emails you and asks for approval to purchase a necessary item on Thursday night so he can finish it Friday - respond approving it and now you've just gotten that done much sooner than waiting to see them on Friday.

Heaven forbid he just call me and ask me, thus saving both of us a whole lot of time.

Seriously, it would take about 20 seconds for him to call me, ask me, and get approval instead of 2 minutes sending and email and waiting for a response. Sometimes less technolgoy > more technology.

There are many times where your response is needed and you cannot talk.

It's hard to relate when you are not in the right industry to understand.

Also many things are still better via email due to having a 'paper trail' vs catching someone on the phone and them denying the conversation.

Exactly - having an email is better than no record at all.

My example showed it being Thursday night - what if they were out eating dinner with someone? Do you really want to get a call about work? An email is much less intrusive because you can reply to it in 10 minutes or whatever you'd like instead of getting a call, getting a beep for voice mail, then listening to the voice mail, and then finally calling back, not even being sure if they'll pick up or you'll leave a voice mail.

anyone see apple tapping into blackberry's consumer base with their iphone... perhaps tweaking it a bit with more business-centric apps?

Then that person can make the phone call if its that important.

Ijust got one because my razr died. My fingers are too fat for dialing on it. It could be useful in my line of work but.... i just want a simple goddamn phone.

I feel the same way when I'm at work with other Blackberry users. It's very strange.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Once the first person in the group tunes out the rest of the gang by checking on the BB, it's open season for the rest of the folks to do the same.
