anywaysssssssssss, I'd go if I was drafted, don't wanna live in Canada and I don't consider myself a slacker. However, being 18 and college-bound, I don't think I'd be first up for the draft.
Why, do you think you are special?

It already has.
Concerned parties should review What Happens In A Draft.

According to the above, if you are a college student, you will be deferred until the end of the semester. If you are a first-semester senior, you may be deferred until the end of the year.

I think the only reason politicians want the draft is so that people will have even more reason to protest a war. No reason to protest if you aren't going....
I also heard Charlie Rangel say that he thinks it's unfair that people in the military should be the only ones going to war. He's a little bit screwed up in the head.

Buzz we have a loser! You would only be deferred to until the end of your semester! Go read up at the SSA website it has great info on what actually happens if a draft was to be reinstated(which it will not be).

Edit- Didn't see Jzero's post. What he said.

I would tell Bush to eat Cheney's wad.

It is simply incredible to me that every one of your posts is dumber than the last. Just when I become convinced that you have hit the absolute bottom you charter new ground. You're to be congratulated on being a true pioneer in the field of stupidity.

Charlie has been thundering about this for a few months now. His position is that there should be mandatory service not a draft. Big difference. It really is a political ploy because his point was that people who vote to send troops to war wouldn't be so quick to do so if it affected them more personally. His second point was that there is no "shared sacrifice" in this country. He felt that if the effects of war were more widely felt people would be less likely to support a war. Now I will tell you I absolutely do not support mandatory service and a draft is not needed at this time. However I do agree with his assesment that there is no sense of "shared sacrifice" in this country. The reaction ( or more accurately) the lack of a reaction after this country was attacked last year is ample proof of that.

I'm in college, employed full time, and I'm the only male in my family to carry my surname. If I have to serve, I will....proudly....I just don't wanna unless I have to. ;)

His line on Hannity and Colmes last week appeared to be that he wanted people drafted and he wanted it now. Mandatory service was hardly mentioned at all. His points about shared sacrifice and people being cavalier about going to war when it isn't their life on the line are well made, but when he is asked further, he starts rambling about how unfair it is that only people in the military have to fight and how there is a racial gap. He either hasn't thought the idea through, or he's just not that bright.

Mandatory service is pretty much a skeet-shot squirrel IMO. But you're right, the point he made when he said that is very valid.
