Is anything going to change? Will they have more bandwith to push higher quality HD pictures or sound?

Keep seeing the commericals, I am on comcrap and would like if they HD channels would improve as well as the quantity of them
 
Nothing will happen will change with HD after the switch is complete.
But verizon , at&t, etc are going to be cheering. They are the ones that get those frequencies.
 
You'll instantly gain 6" and women will be throwing themselves at you. All thanks to the digital conversion.
 
Will there be better programming since the absolute bottom of the barrel morons can't figure out how to get TV anymore?

No, because the people that went crazy over HD because it was the new thing and they just had to keep up, will still be watching. The same ones that buy monster cable products.

The ones hurt by it are the older people. An apartment complex near me for retired people has 30 or so apartments with people that can't afford cable and satellite and have tv that work like crap with the converter boxes due to being too far from the broadcast stations. The old rabbit ears at least allowed them to watch some channels, even if it wasn't a perfect picture. Now the majority can't watch many of the old channels because digital is all or nothing.


I'm trying to get the owners to put up a MATV setup, but the owner is a corporation and the manager can only pass along my request.

Will I get better digital reception without all the analog stuff crowding the airways? Because I get crap digital reception now because there is this 13 story building directly between my apartment and the broadcast towers 🙁 We only get analog channels, even though when we lived just a few blocks away I was getting an assload of digital stuff.
 
One thing I like about it is that I have access to local weather 24/7 by accessing their other digital channels. 3-1 for regular CBS and 3-3 for their weather broadcast. Other than that it's not a big deal.

Yeah, I know a handful of people who live in the middle of nowhere (farmers and such). They used to get a half decent picture, now they get nothing. I wonder if they could come together as communities and build repeaters.

I said the crowd that buys monster cable,you know the ones that buy into the hype of everything without ever asking if they need it or what the benefits are.

Nope.
Those same airwaves are going to be sold and re-used by other companies. If anything you could get more interference.

Remember the main reason for the switch to digital wasn't because it would give a better picture. It was done because it would allow them to cram even more signals into the same space.

Well that's not really what you said, but whatever. By the way I have 2 Monster HDMI cables in my system; they were thrown in free when I purchased everything, not that I would ever notice the difference anyway.

Just build a better antenna. It's really cheap and easy to do, especially for a hands-on type person like a farmer.

It isn't an easy problem to solve though for people that live in apartments or don't even understand what digital means.
 
Some channels will change frequencies and suddenly offer better or worse reception. That's the only thing that really matters if you already have an HD-capable setup.
 
Some stations around me aren't turning their digital broadcasts on until they turn their analog ones off. This means that I may get HD for said channels when they do so (or they could simply air in SD). But quite a few stations already broadcast in HD/SD over digital transmissions.
