So what have we learned about society as represented by ATOT?

So I started this thread because I actually thought it was a nuisance.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2188936&highlight=

Some members mentioned a double standard. Which I wanted to prove wrong so I stated that I would do a social experiment. I changed the topic up a little keeping the rant as innocuous as the first one. Little did I know I received more hate in this new thread than the old one.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2189136&highlight=

Note that these issues are about on par with each other in terms of offensiveness by my book. So why then, was it okay to point out something about Asians and be fine but not fine for black people?

Short conclusion:

I was proven wrong about the double standard, as can be seen from the replies of the second thread.

It's become a taboo to mention black people in any sort of negative light much like it has become a taboo to mention incest even if practiced safely. (eg separated twins)

possible sub conclusion: Asians have not been sensitive to racial slurs historically, thus the taboo was never formed when dealing with Asians. Note the Asian vs African American population of this forum.

Other races: inconclusive.

Perknose & Mods: Thanks for the PM. I'm not trying to start anything with this. Just thought it was interesting.

Old thread revived by Quebert for no fathomable reason.

You don't get rich by giving your money away.

I'm white, why would I care what you think of your own race (I'm assuming you're asian based on the first link)? When you start calling out black people though I would kind of expect a reaction.

The topic was so insanely harmless though. Would this even be considered calling out?

Meh, seemed kind of borderline to me. The only thing missing was a "Well, lookey here." :awe:

I'll admit that I was waiting for the mod ban hammer. :D I didn't post anything negative though.

I read your other thread but didn't respond to it because I've never personally witnessed asians leaving shopping carts in front of stores so I had no opinion on the matter.

I read your other thread. Apparently you've got a narrow vision of the USA.

There are some market chains that do require coin tokens to use the shopping cart. They are not walmart or target, nor in some states. It's easy to notice a high percentage of those shoppers return their carts.

I've often had my grilled cheese with tomato soup. Have you ever tried a grilled cheese with grape jelly spread on top after it's cooked? It's quite delicious.

Grilled cheese with tomato soup is key. I've never tried the jelly thing though, I might check that out, thanks for the suggestion.

What's your point? This should not be incentive driven. It'd be interesting to do an experiment on this in which case the coin op ones would still be irrelevant unless you wanted to test all in coin op.

I like my cheese toasted on a slice of bread because I like the texture. Dip it in tomato soup and it feels like you are eating a wet pizza.

There's a double standard in general when it comes to racism.

This year on the first day of the state fair here, there was a mob of 100+ black kids that looted the mid-way, then took off into the streets right outside and singling out only white people and beating the shit out of em - knocking em off bikes, and even pulling them out of their cars. The news did their damnedest to not call it a "hate crime" when even black witnesses were calling it just that, because they got totally ignored in their cars. Had it been 3 white guys beating up one black guy it would have been national "hate crime" news.

Local news report (note the total lack of race mentioned) http://www.wisn.com/news/28774396/detail.html

Non-local coverage with witness reports of what actually happened http://www.theblaze.com/stories/report-black-mobs-attack-white-patrons-outside-wis-state-fair/

The sad thing is this was the 3rd or 4th time the mob thing happened in the city this summer, the state fair incident was definitely the worst of em though. And yeah, I know I'm racist for pointing out the race of the attackers in all these events.

I think we just need to start over with the whole racial thing. Set the score to 0-0-0-0-0... then prosecute these guys

That society has short attention spans along with 10" weiners and yearly earnings of at least $300,000 while working 2 hours a day.
