i was hearing about a new PS2 the SCPH-50000 that was going to be released in the US in june and now it's july and still nothing. then i hear about other upgrades that they decided to add on but nothing specific and no dates. any body heard anything? ebgames is offering an online combo pack and has a note that it's just a substitute since the new version was delayed.

I haven't seen any US info, but japan's has been out.

What is the point though...if anything DVD's will be the only benefactors

People do realize that the resolutions PS2 games will not look 'better' on progressive vs interlaced.

Bad is bad

It seems like I read something about this in a magazine. I don't remember if it said when it was coming out though.

I saw a brief glimpse of it on TechTV. I remember something about a dvd/cdr burner, tivo, and something else. Look it up though, i'm not positive.

why wait for the updated ps2 if you only want an updated dvd player. the thing is going to cost ~$600. A progressive scan dvd player will run you $100.

huh? the upgraded ps2 is only going to cost a couple buck more than the old version. and that only until they sell out of the old ones.

No that is the PSX which is more like an all in one box rather than a console. It something totally different from any playstation.

ditto.

speculation: they made the psx, so the ps3 won't have to have all the above feats built into it, balooning up the price of the soon to be super competitive "next" gen vid game wars

yea, i remember hearing about the updated ps2 coming out, w/ no firewire port, but a bundled remote w/ infra senor built in. better recorded media playback, esp dvd-r media and such.. oh yea forgot about the built in nic. whatever, i refuse to join the ps2 craze until the unit drops to $99, the price point which it shoudl be at right now in its 3rd year.. :(
