I don't know what's more sad: people who play video games professionally, or people who actually follow these leagues.

I don't see what's sad about it, you're getting paid to do something you like to do, and apparently Thresh got paid reaaaaaaaal well

<<The biggest farce was letting the little prick set up his "game settings" before the matches. Thresh cranked down the resolution and turned off the gibbs. He figured out long before it was common knowledge that latency and frame rate is the way to go in the Quake series. >>

Gee, so he's a prick just because he liked customized settings? I don't see how that makes him a prick at all, if he's any sort of "prick," he's certainly a smart one.

His site "Thresh's Firingsquad" (now just "Firingsquad") started when all the dot coms were popping up. The venture capitalists poured forth the money and they were rolling in it for awhile. The site was somewhat a success, my friend's father was hired as a consultant. They were all kids trying to run the company so they wanted a more experienced person to help make decisions (one of the few good decisions they made).

Every E3, they would fly down 1st class, stay in the closest hotel to the LA Convention Center. They spent money like mad, while the consultant drove, stayed in a motel 6 (they would not listen to his cost cutting proposals. He could not stand being brushed off so much especially when he was hired to be listened to in the first place. He left within months. He told me all this when I saw him months after e3 of 2000. Many bad decisions later they decided to hire another guy to be president of the company. They just wanted an older more experienced guy to make decisions insted of consult. Probably someone to MAKE them get their business off its ass. This guy was a bastard, they didn't do the research on him or something, he would have his own agenda and when the sh!t hit the fan, he blamed it on Thresh and the gang. The VC's of course believed the older guy; whose gonna believe a bunch of young guys who spent all the VC money and showed no return anyway. After fighting for a long time, they fired the Pres. and they were in trouble for quite awhile. I think now they have gotten their act together , some say too little too late, but I think they might be be leveling out nowadays.
I heard from my friend that Thresh was nothing more than a spokesperson for the websites he started, he doesn't know too much about business. His brother on the other hand is the real genius and prob the one that kept the boat from sinking.
