itunes < free ipod scams < poo-nuggets < *.*

I have a music directory in the root directory of the drive, and within that is an individual directory for each album in the "Artist - Album Name" format. I have a "~Miscellaneous" folder (the ~ makes it show up first alphabetically) for all music not a part of any of my albums. Only two directory tiers, keeps it very simple. Over 5k songs and no troubles playing whatever I want, whenever I want to.

Mine is like Anubis's. If I have a lot by an artist he gets his own directory. Otherwise I leave all misc in the root of my MP3 folder.
sorting through folders in explorer doesn't compare to an instant database search with itunes.
Perhaps not, but my alphabetized search goes quickly. I want something by back street boys I look under B. Plus it's simple and all I have to back up is the pure data without the need for anything else or relying on anything else.

Who has to sort through directories? I load the root directory and sort by path/filename in my player (Winamp). I know where every song out of 5k+ is instantly. iTunes is notoriously buggy with collections over a few thousand songs anyway. As an aside, I don't think it's a coincidence that someone who thinks u and ur are words likes iTunes 😉

you still have to play with subdirectories.

with itunes you just start typing what you want in the single search field. ussually just a few letters into the artists name or album or whatever ur typing and its got the results that match. its just duh easy. then you can always go by genre year or whatever quickly too. if you want the same song sung by several artists just type the track name. no directory setup is going to make that easy. i don't use itunes for cleaning up directories of new stuff or whatever. just as a quick jukebox.

Insert CD. Click rip. WMAs get tagged and put into folders based on artist, with album subfolders. Browse using Media Library.

WMP10 kicks ass.

Again, I don't have to play with directories. I keep winamp loaded with my main music directory and, with two clicks, sort by artist name, then by album name, then by track number. I can instantly listen to anything I want. If I add to my collection I simply remove my playlist, re-add the folder (with its new addition(s)), and re-sort it. When adding to my collection on the hard drive, I find it ridiculously easy to put something where I want it, with only a 2-tier structure, creating a new directory if needed, but I suppose not everyone can comprehend the complexities of a file manager... 😉 This also allows me instant file access if I want to manipulate a specific album or albums; no fiddling through a folder with 5,000 files in it looking for a specific CD or group of CDs. I can also scan my CD booklets and keep the jpgs in the proper folders, so no sorting through hundreds of those either. Further, my collection is big enough to give me bugs in iTunes, as has been noted by many of its users. Oh yeah, and I don't have to pull my hair out over improper id3 tags. Lastly, I don't come off as a trend-zombie or install buggy software coded by the same company responsible for Quicktime, which I consider malware.

I've heard a lot of good things about it, only problem is I've gotten spoiled by my remote control, any way to get them to work with foobar? Mine in particular is the one you get with an Audigy 2 ZS plat & plat pro.

I have never had any probs with bugs in itunes and I have 5143 song in my collection and still adding, I am not saying managing mp3 manually is bad just takes longer IMO.

I also like iTunes because of other options it has. You can check and see what your favorite local stations top 50 are, so if your looking for a song you heard and dont know the name you might be able to find it. Its simple to rip my CDs with one click, it rips and puts the songs and in the proper Artist/Album directory. You can also check what other albums any artists has with one click.

all my files in one folder, called My Music. One other folder caleld Non-English. That is it. Sorted by file name, with artist - title format.

Say no more... your search is over.

Foobar RM-X Plug-in

It works great with my Audigy 2 Platinum EX remote, and should work with pretty much everything. It is 100% customizable and very easy to set up. Enjoy 😉

Awesome, thanks. Definitely going to give foobar a try, winamp has its share of problems.. like taking up a sh!tload of memory when I have it minimized for a while :frown:

I have a single folder labelled My Music. That folder contains folders named and arranged by artist name. Within the artist named folder resides folders named and arranged by the artist's album names. Each of the album folders contain all of and only the songs released on that album. Special albums like sound tracks are listed in the Soundtrack folder under My Music and are arranged in folders named after the movie that the soundtrack corresponds with.

It's really not that hard. 😛

I use music match jukebox to profile my music then put it on my 40gb lyra jukebox. Keeps everything nice and organized (genre, artist, year, song title album title etc) Then I hook up the Lyra to my 12" jbl sub and my onkyo surrounds and shake down the living room. Or listen on my senns and not disturb anyone 😀
