We've had a few of these over the years but I'm sure people have changed jobs or careers

I do a mix of PM\Infrastructure admin stuff for various organizations that mostly include universities. The higher ed environment is quite a bit different than corporate america or even K-12 education

Senior Software Architect working for a company. The past 11 months I've been working on the side with 2 other co-founders on an app and I'm hoping that company can become my fulltime job in the next few months if our app can gain some traction and we can get funding if need be.

IT PM - not a fan, but it pays the bills @ six figs

I wish I was a solution architect or something- do stuff I have expert knowledge of within my control. Being a PM sucks- chasing people for status' and dealing with delays and crap which I have 0 control over then have to answer to Sr. management.

Speaking on behalf of others that I have 0 authority over sucks donkey balls. I guess that's the nature of PM.

Again, it could be worse. Grass is always greener on the other side. I get to WFH every Fridays, and my boss is pretty chill. And $ is solid.

Can't complain.

I've been doing web apps for the same company for 16 years now. Field is what I love and the WFH is why I stay (not great for pay of course).

Your job is a lot easier if you have technical know-how and background. You get more cordial responses from the team. PMs who aren't technical and just bugging us for status are annoying at best. Some have little respect for them.

I do treat them with respect and am very cordial. They're my team.

After working with PM's before at previous jobs, that is one job I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. At least if you're a PM for a government project.

Clicked expecting "as little as possible" to be in thirteen nested quotes, leaving disappointed.

It can be a huge PITA but, in my experience, education is easier as there is just as few people doing what they are supposed to but no ultra pressure deadlines you have to meet. If you can get a provost or dean involved that seems more effective than a C level exec at moving things forward. Its not my full job so that helps but its still way better than my experiences doing corporate america PM

I'm a self employed software engineer. I do work primarily for a company that contracts to a lot of big players in various software markets.

So basically I sit at home in my pajamas and lurk on the forums all day.
