girls that are high maintenance; meaning they love to shop, dress nicely, like to go out to fancy places, and need a lot of affection from their man.

P.s I am one of them :)

They are weak. They aren't secure enough in themselves and their own abilities so they have to have people constantly make them feel better or look for material things to make them feel "good".

High maintenance immediately strikes me as being bad. From my point of view, shopping is designed for when you need something, not as a recreational activity, although I can see some exceptions. Liking to go to fancy places out isn't a crime, so long as it's not an absolute necessity, and doesn't have to be frequent. Needing a lot of affection... that's trickier. If it's needing affection to maintain one's self-identity, you're entering a black hole and that's bad. You should learn to be confident on your own, to have an identity independent of others. Everyone needs some degree of affection and affirmation, but to be dependent on it, especially from one person, is bad.

I'm cool with the affection part as long as she pays for all that stuff herself:D

btw, you should put up pics so that it's easier for us to judge

With tastes like yours (needing lots of affection, fancy places, etc.) you may have an inclination to suck your S.O. dry - demanding things like that doesn't make for a particularly great relationship.

Bruno, that maybe the case for some women but I am totally the opposite of what you said.

Goober, I do shop at Walmart but only for gum, it gives me a break from the Versace, and Chanel stores.

What a warm reception you received! Don't take it too harshly. Welcome to Anandtech. We hope you stick around. When you reach 100 posts we give you a flame retardant vest, so don't worry.

In answer to your question, all women are high maintance in one way or another. When a girl KNOWS she is high maintance, it is one thing. Its the girls that claim not to be high maintance but in fact are that can get to a person. Also, girls that are high maintance but can support themselves are fine by me. However, if you ask me to buy you really expensive things a week or a month into the relationship, that is a bad sign.

When you're talking about dressing nicely, do you mean simply looking good or dressing nicely as in, name brands, always new, expensive types clothes? IMO, which matters not a whit, following the popular market of what's 'in' is lame, just get what you like and wear what looks nice/decent.

When I said a lot of affection I meant action. :) I know what I want.

If everyone didn't think "maybe, but I'M not like that", then would anyone have any problems in the first place? Food for thought.

lol, my girlfriend is high maintenance also. Her philosophy is work hard, play hard so it's not like she's a charity case. That kind of HM girl is ok with me :)

You are already stressing over this girl. If you want to spend the rest of your life suffering from anxiety then go for it. Two years into your marriage, after having a kid, you're going to find out that she's banging the landlord or the gardener. You can fill in the blanks.
