So what are the best android apps?

I use:

Battery Solo Widget to quickly see how much battery I have left at a glance on the home screen.
Mobile Signal Widget to see how strong a cell signal I have in dBm right on the home screen.
ColorNote for shopping lists and general list or note taking.
RadarNow! to see live radar for when a storm is coming in.

I personally like using Pandora on my android phone! The second choice for me is spotify

(in response to the music apps)

I was going to say mplayer but then i was going to search the thread to see if someone mentioned it and then I realize I can't find an easy way to search threads with this new forum so I will say mplayer 🙂

So, several years after starting this thread and several android devices, these are the best apps I've found:

1. Foobar. Gapless playback, just like desktop.
2. Shuttle Music Player.
3. Pocketcasts. Can also sync across devices with login.
4. Atlas web browser. Faster than Chrome.
5. Asus File Manager.
6. Jotterpad.
7. VLC video player.

Aurora (nightly/dev beta of Firefox) is now available on the Play Store and APKMirror. Don't download if you don't like betas or frequent updates, but the performance seems to be faster now and closer to Chrome. There's also Pyrope (browser based on CM's Gello) that is optimized for Snapdragon devices.

Also an alpha version of Kii Keyboard 2 is available on the Play Store. It's been my favorite keyboard on Android because the customizations, accuracy, and predictions were always better for me than any other keyboard app. I think another user in this forum recommended it, actually. The developer behind Kii basically brought it back now with Kii 2.

Pulled the sim out of my still unexploded note 7, popped it into my old Verizon Note 4 and... bam. Everything works.

Amazingly somehow even 4g. I didn't think that was possible?

Eh. Still shopping around for a suitable interim replacement for the 7 until there's something else actually interests me, or Samsung releases a new Note or Galaxy Pro or whatever.

Maybe they'll wise up and not seal the battery in next time. Somehow I doubt it though. Even this grand fiasco probably won't teach them a lesson.

Wrong thread?

Does Asus File Manager let you connect to network drives? I need a ES File Manager replacement but that feature is a must for me.

FX will do it, but it's a paid add-on ($1.99 FX Plus). It has a 7 day free trial, though, if you want to see if it works first.

I stopped using ES because it got bloated and annoying to use.

I'm using the trial version of Solid File Manager now, but if there is an option to browse network locations, it's not in the free version and I'm hesitant to purchase it without knowing for sure the pay version will include the feature. I'll check out FX too, thanks.

I put up with ES's bloat but when they hijacked my lock screen, I ditched them. I know they pulled that "feature" since then, but they violated my trust pulling that crap, and I will not be returning to this app.

I'll just buy a less-intrusive file manager.

Replaced DFX Player for music with Phonograph, it's actually pretty decent.

Also, loving XiiaLive for streaming internet and local radio stations. It's far from perfect, but at least I can get my SomaFM fix without jumping through too many hoops. TuneIn's UI was a disaster and I think Xiia is much better. JMHO.

Some of my favourite apps:

NetGuard - blocks internet access for selected apps (including system apps) without needing root.

Solid Explorer - The best alternative to es file explorer that I know of.

Neutron music player - with 64bit processing enabled and sampling changed to 'audiophile' in settings, I think it sounds better than poweramp.

Az screen recorder - can record your screen with no time limit.
