so we went to denny's restaurent a couple weeks ago. had mediocre service, finished food, went to the cashier, paid with credit card. the reciept came out of the machine, the cashier, who is also the general manager of the store asks: "So how much tip should I put down on the credit card...." we were like wtf??

Denny's is really getting bad these days.... getting trashy and all.

to make this topic half productive, any body have any wierd 'tip experiences" at restaurants?

I haven't eaten at a Denny's in many many years. Can't think of any compelling reason to start now.

Edit-It's like fast food with the wait of a decent restaurant. No thanks...Worst of both worlds.

You did get served, didn't you?

When people pay with credit card, they usually put a tip on the credit card also. Typically they just let you fill it in when you sign, but I don't see the big deal since its the cashier asking, and not your waitress/waiter.

I went to Denny's tonight. Good, fast service, yummy food (yes, go ahead and flame me 😛). Waiter came back to my table 3 times and asked me how things were, and refilled my coke promptly. Tipped with cash and paid for the meal with a credit card. No problems.

Your local Denny's manager sucks. Call corporate.

It's mainly useful for drinking bad coffee and eating cheese fries at 2 in the morning.

20 plus years for me.

Last week my girl wanted to eat at Denny's, I dont like to eat at Denny's, she wants to eat there, I dont wanna because Denny's = dirty, she says no booty, I say we will eat at Denny's, she orders hot tea and some breakfast something or other, I order grilled cheese (Denny's = dirty), I try and talk her into leaving for better food, she says no booty if we do, me want booty, her hot tea arrives, I look into the metal container out of sheer curiosity (Denny's = dirty) and find multiple winged bugs inside just as she is about to drink the team she says lets go eat somewhere else, I get lots of booty.

Seriously, there were multiple bugs inside the hot water container and the worst part is, the server kept avoiding our table while we tried to flag him down to show it to him even when he was at the table directly beside us. I went to the counter and had to nearly grab the manager to show him. Guess what, he wasnt very shocked at the discovery. I had sworn off Denny's years ago after finding a cooked roach in my scrambled eggs, the legged kind not the stoner kind.
Imagine if I were a lawyer.
Denny's = dirty
stay away from that cess pool excuse of a resturaunt.

I ate at Dennys a year ago. It was terrible. It was the only thing open at 4:30 AM. The place was almost empty. The waitress danced around the empty restaurant ignoring my plate of fried eggs and hashbrowns which stood chilling on the counter for over 10 minutes. I would have told her they were cold, but with the service I was getting I figured she'd just put them in the microwave. I did not leave a tip, I paid and haven't been back since. They were good 20 years ago, but no more.
In hindsight, I could have argued, reprepare this meal, but service was pathetic. It was also early in the morning and didn't feel like starting it out with an argument.

I hate denny's...my wife loves that place, no matter how bad the service is and has been in the past. In Hawaii (Oahu) there is only one, and it's not as good as the continental US's Denny's (yes, it is possible to suck more). While we lived in the continental US we had very bad examples of service. Once had tabasco in our water (it burned! but kinda interest), been over charged, had very, very slow service. my favorite...My brother-and-sister-in-law went to Denny's for dinner one night. My in-laws are Native American and generally wont speak up when being discriminated or taken advantage of. When they were seated they were seated at a large table, the kind with the wrap around bench. Well, at one end was a Mexican family, and my bro/sis-in-law sat at the other end of the table (Click for diagram). Of course neither party said anything, and they both just ate dinner in silence, kinda not trying to stare at each other.

There is this Thai food place up near the University District in Seattle (UW), I won't mention any names, but anyways, a buddy of mine, his girlfriend, and her friend and I were eating there. They messed up the order, service was bad, and waiter was slow. My buddy paid but left no tip. The owner sees that there is no tip and so confronts us as we are leaving. "WHY NO TIP?! NO TIP?!!" and so my friend starts to tell him why he isn't getting any tip. Yada yada yada and then we leave but as we are like 50 feet from the restuarant, the owner comes out and yells, "YOU DON'T COME BACK ANYMORE!"

We were like, WTF?!:Q

LOL, Since when was Dennys ever a not-trashy place? If you want good service/food, go to Ruth's Chris or some place where that kind of service and food is expected. For a $5 meal, you don't much to complain about.

after all...

it's Dennys.
