You call up and ask to talk to the fleet manager or their "internet" sales person. Tell them the price you want it for and if it's reasonable, meaning you've done your research and know what it goes for, you'll get it for that price, none of that hours upon hours of haggling, waiting, BS.

Bought my 1st Accord, 2001 with that haggling crap, couldn't stand it. When I totalled that one and got the 2002, I knew better and just told them my price, 17,300 for the 4 door LX.

The only difference between the EX V6 2003 and 2004 is the Siruis or XM radio but the 2004 was also like $500 more sticker.

She pretty much paid TMV price according to Edmunds.

I will take pictures tommorow.....it has a gorgeous interior....way better than the 6 but the 6 I like the shape better.
Did you get to TMV after or before doc fee, tax, title, and plate transfer?

BTW, are any of these fees BS, especially the "doc fee"? This is what I was quoted through the internet for a 2004 Honda Accord LX Coupe Auto w/Fabric Seats:
MSRP: $20,660.00
Current Internet price: $18,900.00
Out the door price including $99.00 doc fee, tax, title, and plate
transfer: $20,158.94

Does that look good or can it improve?

Leather?

And, yeah, that interior is the BEST Honda interior, ever!!

After selling Hondas for a month, I would really like to have an EX V-6 Coupe with the 6-speed and leather.

SWEET.

Fleet sales people are Salaried no based on sales. They also have set prices that they sell their cars for. Usually from $100-$400 over dealer invoice and they are supposed to show it to you.

Rossman Costo (from the cars I have dealt with) is basically the same as buying from a fleet guy. In this case they have to show you the invoice.

BMW however will not haggle and do not have fleet people like the domestics. Some dealers do however, have an internet department that takes a percentage off of the MSRP. When I ordered my 3 series 3 years ago (best car I have ever owned) I went through their inet sales guy and saved about $1500 off of MSRP. That was at the BMW dealer in Beaverton, OR.

ROSSMAN,
How do you get loss leader deals? I thought they were almost impossible to get... like winning the lottery. Is there something I don't know about?

Edmunds shows $21,870 TMV pricing so, yeah, sounds pretty good.

Did you get the 6-disc CD changer convenience pkg?

Back when the Honda s2k was fairly new, I offered invoice and was basically laughed out of the dealership. I think the same thing is going to happen when I make my bid for the 2004 model.

Anybody ever work part time in a car dealership just to get the employee discount?

I like to reference carsdirect.com for prices in my area (I live in central Cali), as well as edmunds.

It is a good idea to be aggresive with the price you ask for when buying a car, right? (Especially if most of it will be cash.)

Oh, and btw, is there a list of dealer "BS" fees that they try to tack on? I know that "dealer fee" is one as well as the "window etching." Any more??

TIA.

2k2 vs 2k3

This thread inspired me to compare the two interiors and the 2k3 makes the 2k2 look like an econobox.

The best part about the new car? It's made in Japan.

It says on the window sticker it was made in Japan? I could have sworn the salesman told me there are no more Japanese made Accords sold in the U.S. when I went to look at 2003's a few weeks back. I know on the sticker it said a lot of the parts came from Japan, but everyone I looked at stated it was made in the U.S.

It says on the door frame made in japan and the VIN begins with "J", which is supposed to mean made in japan

Yeah she felt in love with the Accord after looking at the 6 first beacuse of the interior.
It has a matching gray interior that is absolutely gorgeous.

Basically if someone tell me I can get the same car but a coupe with 6-speed for $24700 + taxes title tag.......I be really tempted to trade in my car....and I love my car.

Yeah the car is decked out, just no navigation....don't know what a 37 yr old female who drives like my mom gonna do with a 240hp beast.

After you get done haggling for a final price...you should only be paying for taxes tag and title.
Anything else is actually BS stuff.
Most dealers here, on the final paperwork will stated the "dealer fee" but that doesn't mean its legit.
They will argue with you that its in the paper work and theres no way to take it off......so you tell them give you a credit for that fee so it will negates each other.

Seriously, if any of the dealers have this so called "FEE"....ask them to explain to you what it is.
I told them to expalin to me and if it makes sense, I'll think about paying it.
They were telling me that its a fee to prep the vehicle and maintain it in the lot and such.......YEAH BS.

Most people see this type of fee on the paperwork and they automatically think its legit.

The EX V6 is 23,200 + destination fee so its about $23,700 invoice.
It had a spoiler that cost $700 so I'm guessing 500 invoice which makes it $24, 200.
So she paid $24,700 plus taxes tag title.....nothing else.

That 99.00 doc fee is BS.......what they're saying is geeezzz, out department that does the paperwork.......we're gonna make everyone who buys a car pay for that department so we don't have to.
How BS is that ???
Its only $99 so its not too bad.

I think I'll stick to loss leader ads for now :)

You can get the loss leader ads if you go first thing when the dealer opens friday/saturday (they are by law supposed to have the car in the ad) just look for the vin number. I bought my 99 sentra gxe for 11.5k out the door loaded with everything sticker price was ~17k

I always hear of car dealers screwing people overl iek this. WTF is up with that? I didn't get screwed that hardcore at my mitsubishi dealer and he wasn't pushy at all. He just wanted to know what I want, how much I was willing to pay or put down, etc. He gave me a price, we talked, did whatever we could to reduce it - and i was out. I ended up with a car that's nicer than most in its class, with more features than any of the others at that price as well. Plus with no down payment and no interest, I had a better financing deal than any of the other car makers wuold offer me. And I didn't have to heckle for it either.

$250cdn/month for a 2003 Lancer. I went to Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai. Hyundai had a good deal but they were TOO cheap (quality wise) and no features, for not much cheaper than the Lancer. None of the sales people were assholes except for Kia, the local Mitsubishi (I went to another one). Everyone was helpful and friendly and didn't mind answering all of my questions and giving a clear price and telling me how much it would be with a certain amount as a downpayment.

$16000cdn for a lancer isn't bad though is it? that's what the purchase price would have been (I took a lease instead). the civic base price was $17,100cdn.. the protoge was more expensive than the lancer, the aerio was more expensive.. etce tc. plus they all had 3%, 4% and higher financing.

heh

Thats not the only difference. There is a year of depreciation you failed to factor in. The car has depreciated on the lot has already depreciated a full model year. Not to mention the drop when you drove it off. Not saying you got hosed.. but you didn't look at everything. No one does so don't feel too bad.

A 37 year old female like that probably won't give a $hit when she sells it. The difference can't be more than around $1500 anyway
