so we ordered a dining room set and they came and delivered it. Do you tip the delivery guy?

$5 a piece, especially if it was an easy delivery. I once made some poor guys haul an 8' couch up to the second story of a VERY narrow hallwayed condo. Took them about 45 minutes to get the couch in the place. I gave them $10 a piece for the effort.

But I'm a big tipper if I think you busted your ass.

i dont tip manual laborers, offer em a drink....and i only tip waitresses and such because they can spit on my food or fsck it up. for somereason i always think that they have a job...i pay for my food, their boss pays them...nobody tips me when i get spots out of their clothes

Same here. UPS/FEDEX guy = no tip, but I always say "thanks." If two guys lug a 300-lb box up two flights of stairs, unpack/setup and they were halfway friendly and were careful to not bash the rest of my stuff on the way through the door I always tip them.

I just saw a news report that actually said that if you will get better service if you tip people even if it's not customary. They specifically pointed out tipping the dry cleaner a buck or two to get that blood stain out of your shirt.

If it was a FREE delivery, I'd probably tip because I wasn't already paying for the service. If you're paying that $50 delivery fee, they probably get a portion of that.. You already know they're getting paid whatever hourly rate they make and it's more than the $2.13 that servers in restaurants get.

I don't tip FedEx, UPS either. They usually don't have to do as much work, and they get paid considerably better.

We ordered some furniture from City Furniture last year when we moved into our new home. Bedroom set had to be put up on the 2nd floor on a split staircase (turn in the middle). First time the furniture was damaged when they unpacked it on the second floor.

Actually, took 5+ times to come out and still had damaged pieces. Ended up making them take it all back except for some living room stuff (sofa/loveseat).

I felt bad that they had to come out a bunch of times and it was damaged from the factory that way, but, I'm not paying anyone for New & damaged stuff. So, I didn't tip.

Had it all been in 'new' condition I would have tipped $10 (5 each). And I paid for delivery too (until they refunded it because of all the hassle). So, It's not a matter of being cheap.

I know ups drivers get paid pretty well for just needing a HS diploma and no lifting over 70 pounds. They should tip me when I order something, since I am keeping them employed.

I delivered furniture while going to college.

Rarely were we offered tips, which is no big deal because we were paid well. Every third or fourth delivery someone would offer us something to drink which was nice. Especially nice when delivering to a single guy and all he had was beer 😉 😀.

They don't expect it, but it is a nice gesture.

I gave a tip to the guys who were paving the street in front of my house. The tip was 2 cases of beer. They then topcoated my driveway with another layer of asphalt for me 🙂

Awesome 🙂

$300 worth of work and materials for $30 in beer. Now that's a hot deal.
