So wait...can I get DirecTV or not

So I was always under the impression you needed a southwest view to get DirecTV. I had an install guy come out and look anyway, cuz I really hate Comcast (I face east in my apartment). He said no go. Disgruntled, I signed up for Comcast.

Last night I was wandering around my complex, and a couple of blocks away, two adjacent apartments facing the same direction as me both of satellites, one DirecTV, the other Dish. Both facing east.

So...uh...what's the deal with that

He does the entire complex though. And I was always told you needed the southwest view anyway, which is why I accepted it....

well, the satellites for dtv and dish are in a geosynchronous orbit just south of texas, so, depending on where you live, figure out the location from there.

Right...I'm in PA, so southwest. Which is why I said fine and got Comcast. But now I'm really confused by these two apartments pointing east with satellites.

Try Dish. I am in Michigan and ours faces southeast.

those two apartments that have dishes pointed east are either:

1. not hooked up to dish and the dishes are just leftover

2. Using FTA receivers and those dishes to point to other satellites to get free programming

3. hideouts for soviet spies and are transmitting secrets east to soviet russia.

When we lived in an apartment (which faced west) the installer mounted the dish on a big ass mast so he could point it back over the roof to get the signal. If you're on the first floor you're probably screwed though.

I don't suppose you can get FIOS by any chance?

Aren't there satellites at 70 degrees with locals and international stations?
