Never had a flu shot, never had the flu. And don't know anyone who has either. The only people who I read about having the flu are the elderly who of course died from the flu.

Maybe it's because I live my life as a computer hermit and avoid going anywhere unnecessarily during the winter.

For a vaccine that guards against a relatively non-lethal disease that CAN, eventually, lead to Cervical cancer.

A disease passed on sexually and is estimated to be carried by 80% of the currently sexually active people out there?

Yeah, that correlates 1 to 1 to MMR.

It depends on your exposure. If you are working in a setting with lots of people every day, especially around kids, you are much more likely to get it. If you work and live in relative seclusion, your chances of getting it are much lower.

For people who work in hospitals it should be (and probably is) mandatory because you are in an environment with tons of sick people and people with compromised immune systems. Anything that can be done to minimize the risk of disease transmission should be done.

Now I know you're talking out your ass. You're correct in the strict, legal sense. There is no "sick time off" or equivalent to "paid sick leave" in the military.

Instead, you go to sick call and convince an over burdened military doctor that even the slightest sniffle is cause for you to need to stay in your barracks room or stay home. Doctor writes you a note for your leadership, they call you a "whiny little fuck" and ask about the sand in your vagina and send you home.

Oh, you also do this if you're a fat ass and you're supposed to do some PT or a PT test that you're going to fail. Nothing like delaying the inevitable.
 
My experience has been that virtually every single year before I started getting the flu shot as a mandatory event in the Army Reserve, I would get the flu and it would kick my ass.

There's nothing better than sweating your ass off with a 104 degree temperature. Then, when the temp finally breaks, you can't seem to stay warm enough and end up feeling freezing cold. Then, your back and rib cage hurt for days afterward from the coughing and hacking, blech.

Ever since I started getting the flu shot annually as a requirement, usually in October or November, I have not suffered from the flu like I did virtually every year before that. Now that I have three school aged germ warriors/kids, I don't hesitate to get the shot.

I don't know... I spent 5 years exchanging dirty money for dirty fast food accross from a high school. Servicing 500+ students daily. Still no flu.

I believe in testing my immune system as much as possible. Neosporin, nah. Bandaids, only if I'm bleeding profusely. Open Wounds, only cover if something is coming out of it.

I'm very very rarely ill.
 
My job (hospital) sent out nastygrams this year for the flu shot. You had the option of a religious/doctors note or firing for not getting one

no one wants to read, "take more cholecalciferol because when it becomes hydrolyzed by the liver, it turns into calcidiol and it's dumped off into plasma and transported around the body using alpha globulin. then, once it hits the kidneys, it gets converted into calcitriol (via chemical mediators dependent on parathormone). when calcitriol becomes active, it binds with the nuclei of cells so that whenever a virus, foreign bacteria, or fungus attacks a cell, it can tell lysosomes to produces cathelicidin within it (these cells are typically t-cells, b-cells, monocytes, and macrophages). it also has many other chain reaction qualities, but i'm not gonna get into all that. the point is that cholecalciferol boosts your immune system by causing a cascade of reactions that ultimately promote the death of harmful fungi, bacteria, and viruses." know why? because "take vitamin d3 to boost your immune system" works just fine. it's short, sweet, and gets the point across. the fact still remains that vitamin d and hand-washing is, in my opinion, the best natural way to keep yourself healthy from the flu and cold.

you're apparently correct... it is an anti-vaccination site. either way, who cares? does it make the findings any less true or the graphs less accurate?

i'm not saying all vaccines are bad or that they don't work. i'm just saying that the flu shot doesn't always work and it's ridiculous to deal with it if the chances are (and the chances really are) that they aren't going to be effective for the year that you're going to take it. there are more miss years than hit years for the flu shot, which is why they're trying to develop a flu shot that will protect people against ALL strains of flu (which i'm fully in favor of, if they can actually do it and show it's safer than actually getting the flu without any long-term side effects).

I'll probably die of a heart attack, maybe stroke. I'm guessing late 70s or 80s. Although a car accident or such is hard to rule out. My lifestyle is pretty healthy, good diet, exercise, all that, but the family history is pretty ominous.
