So...Ultra Street Fighter 4 on PS4 on May 26

I was talking with a friend of mine, only one who I know locally that plays any fighters and we haven't seen any info on arcade sticks for this game. Madcatz had a TE2 available for pre-order that sold out, there's a Hori stick out there (but doesn't use sanwa parts). There's no info as to whether they will use the legacy arcade stick driver that allows PS3 sticks to function.

We both decided that we won't buy it ever unless we can use our PS3 sticks. Reason is, we both spent $200 on sticks for PS3(and I again on XB1 for a TE2). He built his and it works on every system except XB1 and PS4. With the PS4 issue of requiring a constant Bluetooth connection for the controller to function, it basically renders the sticks non-functional without the legacy driver.

We came to the following conclusion. Capcom was nuts to make Street Fighter 5 exclusive to Playstation and PC (provided this arcade stick limitation remains), since there is no viable solution for arcade sticks at tourneys using a PS4 as the official console could be problematic because you can only have so many bluetooth devices in the same room before there are problems(the legacy driver requires you to plug in your stick via USB and keep a PS4 controller connected to the console for each stick you use), there is a lack of arcade sticks for the PS4 which is what prompted the developers to create the legacy driver in the first place, and lastly there are no PCBs that function reliably on the PS4 without constantly disconnecting because of the lack of bluetooth connection. So with no way to mod our stick, PS4 sticks from Madcatz being unavailable and likely going up on ebay overpriced, and if there is no support for PS3 sticks it'll likely turn a lot of people off and the community could be lacking.

Anyway this game on PS4 includes all the DLC for $25 which is nice, but with no viable solution known for arcade sticks it's up in the air as to whether we decide to get it or not. If not then we'll wait it out for SF5 and hopefully there will be some sticks available for PS4 at that time. Nobody really plays on PC, I mean people do but the game doesn't play 100% the same between platforms so a lot of people use whatever is the tourney standard which builds a bigger player base. I suck at the game, and routinely get wooped but I still like to play sometimes and I know my friend will want whatever version is standard for tourneys, thus I'll buy that version too.

That ends my little rant and if anyone has thoughts about the situation I'd like to see your take on it. I still think it should be on XB1 too, if for no other reason than because I have a TE2 for my XB1 and I'm sure a lot of people do as well.

sf5 isn't going to be out until may 2016. there is 100% going to be enough madcatz sticks on ps4 by that time. they have even said at evo this year, since ps4 is going to be the usf4 platform, that they will have loaner sticks on hand. but i do know a lot of people have very custom sticks (like myself for 360/ps3) who would have issues on using a loaner. i am not used to the te2 though and prefer that over my custom stick, however, i need an octogate.

i'm definitely not getting it on ps4 though. i already have it for 360 and don't play it anymore anyways, plus, after playing KI online, playing sf4 online is like underwater. and not a chance in hell they are upgrading anything with the netcode for ps4, i'm 100% positive it is a flat out PC port to the ps4.

the reason sf5 is not coming out on the other consoles is because sony is paying for the development (or at least a huge chunk of it) of the entire project. plus they are putting $500k towards tourneys in prizes.

i am still 100% confident however that super sf5 or a following iteration will be on xbox1.

I remember ridiculing the whole Street Fighter II double-dip situation by asking "What's next? 'Ultra Street Fighter II?!" 🙁

Yeah purebeast I know the situation with Sony funding development but I think capcom threw long time fans under the bus with the go ahead on it.

Anyway yeah the whole thing for me is that buying a $200 stick for the 2nd or 3rd time is too much to ask IMO. Loaner sticks are only ok if you don't use custom springs, a bat top vs ball top, a different gate, a different actuator, or siemetsu parts instead of sanwa.

capcom doesn't care about anything other than money, which is why they don't give a rats ass about sticking it to long time fans.

I can see that. I just hope they decide that it is a good idea to add the driver for arcade sticks. Markman seems to hint at the possibility that there will be support for that but capcom and Sony have both remained silent.

Sony has stated PS3 sticks are usable on PS4, but it is up to the developer to enable them. I believe this is as easy as enabling all PS3 controllers, but that is just speculation.

Now, Crapcom likely doesn't give a crap about "fans of the series" and such and likely will only add this functionality if the devs do it themselves because THEY care about fans.

The developer of skull girls made a driver and it is available to other devs to use for free. Netherrealm used it on mkx.

considering that capcom is in bed with madcatz, i'll be shocked if they put out any drivers for any version of street fighter to allow ps3 joysticks. they will be benefiting off the $200+ joystick sales from madcatz as well. but they also may be losing out on sales of the game because people don't want to shell out $200+ for a new stick. i'm sure they have done analysis on it though.

I know this isn't a good solution, but could you just take the PCB from an official PS4 controller and mod a stick that way? I made a 360 compatible stick from a Wii stick that way (the Wii versions were getting liquidated so it was a lot cheaper to do this than get the 360 version).

Yes, you certainly could. However, modifying your stick (and spending an extra $50+ on a PS4 controller to take apart) isn't something most want to do.

Well someone on Neogaf said that capcom has deals with stick manufacturers (calling out madcatz) and that's why we will never see street fighter on ps4 support PS3 sticks when we know it is possible. Markman called him a liar and told people to "bookmark this post". Some think that is a hint that there might be some type of support for it.

There might not be an actual deal in place, which Markman would be correct in calling the guy a liar, but unless developers take in upon themselves to support PS3 sticks in their games, there won't be a Sony patch for it.

The question people were asking themselves is why would he tell people to bookmark that post. Like there was a reason to refer back to that moment in time.

If it were up to me and I was Sony sponsoring Evo and being the exclusive platform for sf5 I would seriously try to work something up for arcade stick compatibility. That's only because I would take it seriously and not as just a PR move. There are a few things I don't think Sony takes seriously to begin with in regards to the ps4 like the light being always on the controller when the 3rd party PC driver can turn it off and customize the brightness, the controller not communicating with the console via usb when it is plugged in and requiring Bluetooth to be always on. Anyway we will see what happens in a couple weeks at the release. For $25 I would get it but not without a stick. I play Mortal Kombat with the standard controller but cannot do street fighter that way.

probably a madcatz "adapter" that will cost $50 to give you ps3 support.

I'd buy it if it didn't disconnect like the chronus max does every 10 min. Although it only does so for a second so it can reset the connection to the PS4. Be better than an entirely new stick. I'll probably buy a stick for PS4 when SF5 comes out if there are no other solutions at that time. Although for a casual player maybe a chronus max would be a good idea because you can map the reconnection of the device to the console so that a button combo will do the reconnect steps and simply press it before the match starts. You'll be done with the match before it will disconnect.

Update!

PS3 arcade sticks work with the ps4 edition of Ultra Street Fighter 4. The only caveat (and this matches mortal kombat x) is you need a dual shock 4 plugged in the entire time for the legacy sticks to function. In skull girls you could unplug or disconnect your dual shock 4 after the game loads. Not a huge deal except for tournament organizers.

heard this news earlier today, totally shocked by it too. good for capcom though. never would have thought the money grubbing company would do something that actually helps out the community with no direct monetary benefit to them. they probably did some analysis and realized they will get more sales because of this though.

This. I find it hard to think Capcom is being altruistic in their inclusion of PS3 fightsticks. This is more likely a plot to generate more sales for SF5 or some other nonsense. Probably had some complaining from the EVO staff and Sony as well. MS always takes the hard stance on controllers (to limit third party garbage of yesteryear, I guess), but this really gives Sony another "We're better than MS!" even if they don't have a ton to do with it.

It wasn't ported by capcom it was ported by other ocean supposedly funded by Sony.

The game has problems. Decapre's teleport is slower than it is supposed to be with less range, guile's sonic boom is nearly invisible, people claim certain moves are not registering hits properly, there are missing sounds during introductions, slow menus, Claims of frame delay on moves. Basically a bad port that will need a round of patches. Supposedly the game was based on an old version too which makes no sense.

What a mess

Fvck, I just bought it. 😡

lol ps4 is supposed to be the platform at evo for usf4. wonder wtf is going to happen now with these issues.

not a chance i'm giving them anymore money for sf4 though, no way i'd buy it, especially with it being on psn for online play. it's painful to play ANY fighter online other than KI now a days.

Another incomplete and untested game being sold at full retail price by a major publisher. Colour me surprised.
