That sounds really nice but it's the governments responsibility to look after our own citizens first and foremost. The immigrants came over and slaughtered the shit out of native americans, that's what our country was founded on. Land theft and blood. The ideal of Lady Liberty comes with a lot of asterisks.

There are ignorant people who are just that. They occasionally say things which might mean the political, or social aspects of a country. I can say that some of these nations are shitholes, but understanding potential implications I'd explain why. Terrible conditions, tinpot dictators, and on and on. But Trump is a demonstrated racist and it is now for him to qualify virtually everything he says because we already know his nature.

Occam's Razor- he's a condescending racist and worse seems to expect others to agree.

The preponderance of evidence shows the nature of this beast.

That doesn't mean rejecting immigrants simply because you don't like the country they came from, which is what Trump wants. Merely being Haitian or African shouldn't disqualify you from emigrating to the US.

I got my 1st passport about a year ago. I have no plans to set foot on foreign soil yet, and my embarrassment at being an American is a big part of that, absolutely. I expect at some point I will lose that bad taste in my mouth and get my passport at the ready, but ATM, no plans whatsoever. I have no words to answer for what's been going on here.

Not only should it not outright disqualify you, it shouldn't hinder or penalize you.
 
There is no job I have held or am in contact with that if his words were repeated that person would keep their job. I can think of no elected official that should keep their job after saying such a thing.

I am absolutely embarrassed to be an American and if I were overseas right now I'd be terrified.

But what does your argument have to do with what Trump said? His argument is not that we shouldn't be accepting immigrants, but only accepting them from certain places.

Weak justification on comments not meant to me made public. Besides he has enough public comments that support his racism.

A POTUS referring to a country as a shithole may be just inappropriate if it was a one off let's say if a country was recently bombed. Conditions would make it a "shithole" However this was said in a context comparing Africa, Haiti to Norway and their worth to the US. He also said all Haitians have AIDS. He wants more white people from Norway and less black people.

You support becomes hollow because it ignores the context and Trump's history.

November can't come soon enough for racial/ethnic minorities who are eligible to vote in the United States.

Expect the number of GOP "retirements" in Congress to shoot up dramatically between now and then. Nothing is a bigger career killer than losing an election.

When you go out of the country, you don't plaster your passport onto your clothing and walk around with everywhere you go.

No one is going to know where you are from unless you tell them.
