So Trump doesn't want immigrants from "s***hole countries"

He said the countries are shitholes, that doesn’t mean the people are. I think Cuba is a shithole but I don’t feel the people are, etc. it was certainly not a dignified thing to say but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think every president talks this way behind closed doors.

He also said:

“Why do we need more Haitians?” Trump said, according to people familiar with the meeting. “Take them out.”

More irony? Apparently this all broke while Trump was recording his MLK day remarks.

You think Trump is still waiting to hear if Frederick Douglas will accept Trump's invitation to speak for the event? I wonder if Trump will use the opportunity to call Frederick Douglas a loser for not showing up.

A shithole sucess. This guy clearly understands the meaning of America far better then Donald Trump
If you need proof that triumph can have many faces, look no further than this stunning photo of recent West Point graduate Alix Idrache.
Idrache graduated and became a second lieutenant along with more than 950 of his classmates Monday. Amidst the pomp and circumstance, an Army Staff Sergeant photographer caught him during an emotional moment.
While making it through the U.S. Military Academy is certainly accomplishment enough, Idrache left a beautiful message on the school's Instagram that explained why the day was so special to him.
"Three things came to mind and led to those tears," he continued. "The first is where I started. I am from Haiti and never did I imagine that such honor would be one day bestowed on me. The second is where I am. Men and women who have preserved the very essence of the human condition stood in that position and took the same oath..."
"The third is my future. Shortly after leave, I will report to Ft. Rucker to start flight school. Knowing that one day I will be a pilot is humbling beyond words. I could not help but be flooded with emotions knowing that I will be leading these men and women who are willing to give their all to preserve what we value as the American way of life. To me, that is the greatest honor. Once again, thank you."

Trump wants less people from shithole countries with black and brown people and more from white European countries.

Take a guess who will contribute more to this country
This guy..

Yes seriously. He said these countries are shitholes which they are, but how is that racist? They are shitholes, and it’s not because of race.

His comment was related to letting in immigrants from these countries. Now you can make whatever argument you want regarding the shitholeness of these countries. But in terms of positive impact on the US, some of these countries (African countries) have higher proportions of graduates than any other immigrant group.

Although the foreign-born population from Africa in the US is small relative to other foreign-born groups, a higher proportion of Africans are graduates than the overall foreign-born population and their numbers have grown rapidly over the past 40 years.

So what do you call comments (especially not based on facts) used to denigrate a racial group?

So Trump issues his denial this morning. Sen. Durbin is on record as saying he said exactly what was reported. Sen. Flake is on record saying he was told by both Durbin and a GOP Senator just after the meeting that this is what he said before the story broke in WaPo.

Remember people hailing as a hero the soldier on leave in NY who died trying to rescue people from that fire? He was from one of these shithole countries. He came from Ghana 5 years ago. He's an example of what Trump feels is not good enough for America. He might as well throw that in his speech.

Fuck him.

The problem isn't really that he called them shitholes. I mean, it's a big problem in that it's undiplomatic, inarticulate, and beneath a president or any other respectful person, but it's not like using euphemism like "third world" is a whole lot nicer. If Trump had said, "Why are we letting in people from all these third world countries," it might not have made the same headlines but the sentiment is just as nasty -- that your personal worth as a potential American is somehow tied to your country of birth, with the dog whistle implying that it's actually your ethnicity.

Republicans might as well use Trump's Roy Moore playbook and just repeat disingenuously: "Look, he denied it."

"Okay, but others were there and multiple witnesses said that he undeniably used this language."

"Right, but he denied that he said it. He's entitled to a fair hearing."

Lol...Would not surprise me in the least if the Republican party tried to pass a constitutional amendment outlawing wave function collapse.

So it's not a problem to call poor, corrupt countries what they are....I'll buy that for second. I'll buy it when the same people saying "shitholes" will talk at length about the reasons for it. Maybe the parts being played by Western countries could come up in that discussion. I'd like to see that person's view on the situation in sub-saharan Africa, and what the US and others are doing there to perpetuate the "shithole" status quo.

I would have also suggested < 10

There seems to be a nice wee correlation, with these right wingers. Taj? Over 60 and a rabid right wing statist. PCGeek? Over 60 and a rabid right wing statist. Texas Hiker? ~60 Years old and a rabid right wing statist. I think Spyder has also said he was over 60 in previous threads, and he's a rabid right wing statist too.

I think I'm onto something here. Do we know how old Oroo is?

You're presuming he was targeting racial groups though.

1.) His comments were factually wrong. As I said earlier Immigrants from some African countries do better than immigrants from any other country including the Danes.
2.) So given his past remarks and his contrast with the Danish. I think it is fair to believe that he was making his statements on race.

His comments weren't meant to be public, and he's not wrong about them being "shithole countries." Some countries are. It's a fact.

And Western governments are more than happy to keep them that way, oh and also to take in their best and brightest (well, until now). They have their parts to play in keeping themselves poor and corrupt for sure, but "we" do as well. So it's pretty dishonest of any rich western country member to leave that out of the discussion.

Same goes for terrorism. Let's get all upset about Isis, while conveniently forgetting the part we played in bringing them about and helping them thrive. That's because we have no real intention of solving the problem, just in perpetuating the conflict (for $)

This from the president of the biggest shithole country on the planet.
The greatest anti-American of them all sits in the Oval Office.

I asked my 11 year old English cousin last year during the primaries what the English thought of DJT's candidacy (he was with his mom on vacation in the USA). A bright, eloquent lad, his answer was one word: "disgraceful." I can only imagine what he'd say now if I asked him what they think of the DJT presidency. Probably something like "disgusting."

Excuse me?

When Trump says he doesn't want immigrants from shithole countries, the implication isn't just that the countries have terrible conditions, it's that he believes the people themselves are bad. At best, that's false stereotyping based on nationality; at worst, that's dogwhistle racism. Like the one forum member here who not long ago talked about keeping out "undesirables" with a not-so-subtle hint that his real objection was to brown people.

The whole point of putting the "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses" line on the Statue of Liberty is that the US is supposed to represent a chance at a better life for those who've had it rough. It's not just supposed to be for well-off people from well-off countries.

Also, just because the comments weren't meant to be public doesn't mean they're not reprehensible. It's pretty safe to assume that Obama wasn't calling them shithole countries even in his worst moments.

pretty obvious when he means "shithole" countries he means non-white. Besides, if you're from norway, why the fuck would you want to move here?

Internet is going crazy with this. Its all over the place. Cant get away.

GOD DAMN YOU DONALD!
This man has disgraced his country. They have to fumigate the White House when then get his ass out of there.
I'm from a shithole country. Trump happens to live in it. There are enough retards and racists in it to vote Trump in.

How much more evidence do we need?
I am convinced, I have been for sometime now. There's no escaping it. I can only hope that the midterms and the next POTUS election reverse our course.
